Warner Bros set to invest $18 million in Machinima

4.1
Machinima has secured $18 million in funding from Warner Brothers according to their executive vice president of strategy and business development, Thomas Gewecke. Warner Brothers released that they felt Machinima was a "pioneer and category leader" concerning YouTube while they regarded the media company as impressive as a distribution partner. The last major investment into Machinima was in 2012 when Google dumped $35 million into the company but following this Machinima failed to secure stability. The game plan following the recent Warner Brothers investment is a strategic play involving their Infinite Crisis MOBA.

It kind of seems weird having one of the biggest movie companies wanting to invest in something that I started watching back in the day when they had no less than 60k subs.

I'm trying to figure out why Warner Bros would do this, especially after Google did and it failed.
