Steam - Developers now able to self discount their games

4.6
It has came to light that developers can now enable sales for their games on the Steam platform without consulting Valve itself as was required in the past.

According to a developer on the steam subreddit via Valve's private Steamworks community page, it appears developers are now to perform sales anytime. In the past developers have been required to coordinate with Valve in order to set up weekly promotions for their products. Currently all developers need to do is configure their Steamworks page for the title in question to enable discounts for possible customers. Though it was added for developers today it appears that the system is not 100% working as some devs have spoken out publicly that they themselves have experienced error with the feature set.

How do you feel about developers being able to perform sales on the fly?

Jamy Not good at all. Indie Developers will not artificially raise the base price even MORE than they already have been doing... Not like Daily deals, mid week madness and a whole other bunch of sales was not enough. Eventually steam will be saturated with games on "sale" which would have been there base price to make it look good to the consumer.

Someone over thought it and then blew it out of proportion.

It's already been happening with games like Space Engineers and Rust.

ext It is about time, maybe instead of GTA IV being $20 maybe it could drop to $10.

And now maybe activision will stop being stingy and drop the price of some call of duties. $20 for Call of Duty 1 - 2 - UO - 4 - W@W - MW2. $40 for Black Ops 1 and MW3? Still $60 for Black Ops 2? Come on now.

The deals are going to be more often, which is very good for us who like to try out a bunch of new games! Looking forward to taking advantage of this.
