Borderlands 3 not in development yet

According to Randy Pitchford, Head of Gearbox Software, development of the expected titan of a game known as Borderlands 3 is not yet underway.

Pitchford has big ideas for the title and based on his comments they are just too lofty for the studio at this time. While he made it clear that they are not done with the series as a whole they cannot just start development at this time.

When you think of what Borderlands 3 should be, it should be massive. It should be bigger and better than Borderlands 2. It should carry forward the story. It's probably crazy multiplatform, depending on timing. It would have to be a next-gen game and a current-gen game, if it was coming at any time in the reasonably near future.Randy Pitchford


In a rather refreshing tone he said the following concerning the title, "I'm not going to fuck around with you like Valve does with Half-Life 3."

What do you think of Gearbox actually taking the time and consideration to make a quality sequel versus what some studios have done and rush a sequel to cash in?

Not a big fan of Borderlands but they need to put some cheat pertection on the game.

Dorkus I hope they make the next borderlands game better, what they really need to focus on is the cheating and the quality of the game. If they do that i can see the sales skyrocket when the game comes out.


I don't understand, that's what all devs need to work on. Quality.

I hope they make the next borderlands game better, what they really need to focus on is the cheating and the quality of the game. If they do that i can see the sales skyrocket when the game comes out.

Exactly. I bet we won't see BL3 for another 3-4 years. But I don't mind, like he said it has to be bigger and better and that takes time.


I only said that because it fits their release timeline.


Developers need quality > quantity. Especially in this day and age. Graphics are better than ever, but most produce very short, ADHD-infested games that aren't up to par with long, re-play value campaigns.

I hope they fix all of the easy cheating... I hate how people have shields with infinite health and guns that can one shot any enemy

Man, I have only played Borderlands 2 and I loved that game. Until I modded my save and I have the all the legendary weapons. Killing the Warrior in one shot with the Social Conference Call isn't as fun when I beat him legitimately . Anyways, it sucks that they haven't started to even develop the game yet.
