Xbox One multiplayer and party update details, coming in March

4.6
The first product update for Xbox One will release this week, and as previously reported, the update contains stability and product updates such as with Kinect. According to Marc Whitten, Microsoft’s chief product officer, there’s more to come in March as previously rumored.

“This is step one on our journey and commitment to deliver continuous innovation to Xbox One customers,” he said. “Xbox One is a platform designed to offer the best games and entertainment experience and we are committed to delivering more and more features to our customers.

“While we’re thrilled to launch the February update this week, we’re already looking ahead to March. We’ve prided ourselves on having the best multiplayer service for Xbox 360 and we’ve listened to your feedback about the features you want to see on Xbox One and Xbox Live. We’ve heard your feedback and the team has been working overtime to deliver updates that will significantly improve the multiplayer and party experience on Xbox One.”

Here are more details on what’s coming for parties and multiplayer in March straight from Microsft:

  • Get to your friends list faster. The friends list will be front and center on the homepage of the Friends app. Click the Social tile on Home, or say “Xbox, go to Friends” to see who’s online and what they’re up to. From there you can quickly send messages and get into a party.
  • Party chat will be turned on by default. When you party up, chat audio will be turned on by default.
  • Chat with friends playing different games. Party chat will be separated from people playing your game, so you can chat with your friends who are online or you can chat with everyone playing the game.
  • “Invite friends to game” option to your multiplayer titles moving forward. Similar to Xbox 360 titles, this will appear inside a games’ menu and offer a simple and quicker way to set up your multiplayer battles. Selecting “Invite friends” will let you invite friends to your game and party.
  • “Recent Players.” This is a simple list that shows you Xbox Live members you’ve recently played with, making it easier to stay in touch with people, or add new friends after your multiplayer battles.

The March Xbox One system update will start rolling out in the early part of the month, and in-depth videos will be released touching upon the new features.

The February update was expected to land today, but Microsoft has said the team is working on finalizing it. Major Nelson will announced when it will be made available later this week.

IJustWant2Win Once again, XB1 didn't meet their own date to release their Feb update.

Let me tell me what you what I think...

PS Fanboys - please do not respond. Y'all have your own issues.

My support for XBOX is slipping. I have invested a lot of money into Xbox and their service is only getting worse.

We are simple people. We only want to play and communicate with our friends. Xbox 360 communication system was working fine. I mean the 360 communications could stand a few tweaks but at least it worked.

Multi-tasking on XB1 is a joke if you're trying to do anything multi-player related. Receiving messages disrupts game play putting it's self right in the middle of my screen. It needs to move back up to the right and be subdued.

They need to fix the following ASAP.

PARTY & GAME CHAT
When I open an Invite, message or request, I shouldn't have to completely minimize my active game play to address the issue. It should be a small window on top and away from the center of game play so I can ignore it if I want.

We need Simple Buttons reactions... Message/invite/request; when received on screen, we should be able to select the (START) button to acknowledge, then there should be immediate response button. Ie (A) read/accept, (Y) reply, (X) ignore, (B) back/cancel. The scroll and select is a waste of time.

Why can't I select my voice chat to be sent to my speakers & my head phones at the same time like on 360? This removes my family ability to hear what's going on. It's also caused them to loose interest in the game since they can't hear the game conversations.

GAME INVITES & JOINING:
If I receive & accept using the shortcuts described above, don't ask me if I want to leave the game. I accepted the invite, I want to go now! I don't like bouncing between windows only to be told "Cannot join" "Server not available" or any other excuse why I can't play. Just put me in with my friends. 300 thousand servers yet, the server is full? I call BS. Fix the application already.

MESSAGING BOTH VOICE & WRITTEN
There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to send and receive simple voice message to any console or even on the web. It's as simple as creating or reading a simple VOICE RECORDED WAV FILE.

Why must they make it so complicated?

With voice to text technology the way it is why do I need to joystick my way threw a message?

OVERALL NAVIGATION THROUGHOUT THE CONSOLE.
My primary interest is Gaming, all others are secondary. This layout should represent my interest. Simple short cuts to my interest. There are too many things in my way. Clean it up or give me the option to do it myself.

Peripherals:
Headphone adapter: They should of never changed the chat input plug.
Why do we continue to wait? MicroSoft is dragging there feet letting outsiders produce a functioning product. I've done the DIY adjustment to my TB's but that's still BS.

Controller Keyboard: Using my phone is nice but again, they should of never changed the chat input plug. Another wasted tool.

Battery Status indicator: Again why did they change a function tool? Yes they are promising an update, but at the cost of XBOX FANS. Why not add a simple three color led on the controller? Red->10% of charge, Yellow->50% of charge

Your complaining about small issues that are expected with a new console. You invested the money and seeing as you know so much you should have known that problems like this would have arised.ANd what would you rather have a rushed update?Or an update that isn't rushed and pushed back to give YOU,thats right YOU,a better experience.

I'm voicing the issues I am frustrated with which includes XB1's PR and leaderships inability to acknowledge and address these issue to US the customers who have invested in the product. We are stuck dealing with the random news reports, rumor mills and occasional tweets from Major Nelson to tell us "We know, we're fixing it".

They should be up front with the issues and lay out a plan of attack which includes a priority and how they will address these issues. Instead they choose silence on the issues and continue to promote the XB1 as the perfect console.

I don't appreciate you sarcastic comment and to be direct, I don't want a rushed crappy update. I want an update that is complete and functioning.

The XBOX Teams have been working on this system for years now. Someone should be fired for the crap that's attempting to be an OS on XB1. Whoever decided to create put out a BRAND NEW OS without proper testing should be fired as well.

They should have used the functioning OS from 360 with tweaks to operate with the additional OS's needed make the system work as intended with TV.

The waste of money Microsoft spent on making new ports for headset is another Public Relations nightmare. Xbox thought they could increase profits buy making customer buy MS headsets and new Peripherals. They should have just made it compatible with most 360 products then give us an opportunity to upgrade to newer better products to include there new headset.

The reality is, this blunder is another nick in the previously solid XBOX Armor. If they had saved money in R & D by using fully functioning equipment, they could have spun the PR in their favor by identifying how much $$ we could save by upgrading to XB1. Headset $150, Keyboard $40.

None of us would of been left out. But they didn't. In a time when $ is short in most house holds they chose to MAKE US buy new Peripherals. This was a big mistake. Again, the new adapter they are now marketing still leaves out major group triton headset owners.

I could go on but I am probably just wasting my time because of the limited audience and limited care of people who can make any difference.

I have been an XBOX & MS FAN (IJustWant2Win) since I could afford my first PC (1995) & Original Xbox. I just wish the new leadership and programmers would just get back to the basics.

"Customers first!"

The customers are the consumers not the people who make the software. DRM WAS THEIR FIRST obvious shift from the customer to the software developers.

The latest talk is the new MS CEO is getting pressure from investors to drop XBOX and Surface because of all the issues which includes major losses in profits.

It's only a matter of time before there is a shake up over there.

Peace out.
.

you have many good points.and this is the exact reason why i did not get any next gen system and tried to persuade my brother to do the same. the xbox360 is a great system. i have loads of fun on it with my friends. it gets the job done. and thats all i need. so i dont see the point in upgrading because all it is now, its just better graphics. i dont need any of that fancy stuff. i mean of course the xb1 is better than the 360, but i dont think paying that 500 dollars would be worth it. honestly, i would only pay 100 for it; at this point in time anyways. give it a year, then we will be talking.

I knew what I was getting into when I bought the XB1. I read the history on all new consoles and the problems associated with working out the bugs. I got it to be one of those people to find all the problems and help get them fixed for people like you and most of my friends/family who are waiting for it to get better.

At this point, Xbox 360 is a the better console because it's a functioning platform. There are so many issues right now, that I wouldn't recommend anyone waste there money until it's working properly.

All but 10 of my friends are still on 360 so I am very frustrated that I have to communicate via text on the console.

I am just trying to get the word out about the issues. It doesn't seem anyone at Xbox is listening or interested in my concerns. No enough of our XB1 players are voicing the problems that are plaguing us.

I'm not complaining to bring down the XB1, I just want them to fixed it so I can convince you and all my friends still on the 360 to invest in an awesome product. We're just not here yet!

Lmfao. Its not all about you sorry. I think the One isn't bad at all right now. And you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Its not "as easy as creating or reading a simple voice recorded wav file". They have already explained why there can't be voice chat between the One and 360. Just please stop you don't know what you are talking about I promise. One more thing, your mad cause your family can't hear the conversations? Haha! Who cares. Don't plug the headset in and it will automatically come through your speakers and you can use Kinect to talk. Did you really not know that??
