It has been a good few months for Sony's Playstation division, they are reporting a massive increase to operating profit that is likely linked to the recent PS4 launch.

In the third quarter that division reported a 64 percent increase in sales adding up to a sweet $4.2 billion. Compared to last year their operating income ballooned nearly 300 percent to $172 million.

Sony did not break down individual unit sales but did indicate that between their line of consoles and handhelds they sold almost 10 million unit in their third quarter along with 126 million game software sales to boot.

DlCE Hmm seems good, But what no one is talking about, is how sony stated that by the end of the next fiscal Year (March 2014) the entire company has taken a loss of over $1.3+ Billion Dollars, and they will be cutting 5,000 employees from their company.

That's called restructuring, they are cutting off less profitable divisions. All great companies eventually experience this, even your beloved Microsoft has done this (Zune for example).

I know companies do this, but this is being pushed under the rug, Alot. And you have to go searching just to find it. But they've out-sourced so many jobs, and fired so many people in the past 10 years. And it never appears anywere

It's actually very easy to find with a Google search, and if you think Sony is the only company outsourcing jobs, then you are ignorant.

Resort Oh my god that is a boat lode of money! how do people make this much money but the economy sucks D:

becuase over 80% goes to paying the high ups. very little goes to helping the middle and lower class. welcome to capitalism.

They don't deserve it for doing basic, mindless jobs. If one wants more money, risks must be taken and work must be done. That is the reason wealthy people are at the top of the "food chain".
Who doesn't deserve it? Working class people? Of course they deserve more money. Teachers deserve more money than they get for sure, considering they are teaching children who will someday do something good, or the majority of them will. What about the people who empty your bins and clean your streets? Do they not deserve more money? YES, they do. There are many, MANY wealthy people who do next to no work, yet have more money than they can spend. Although Sony's $4.2 billion was well deserved.

What you don't understand is they take risk in order to have that kind of money. They often put large amounts of capital forward and if the risk pays of they make money.

So a teacher who might have taken a $300,000 loan to finish school isn't taking a risk?

The way the system is set up is insane. You'll realize what I'm talking about one day, if you open your eyes that is.
