“PlayStation Now is a joke,” says Pachter

4.1
PS Now has been branded “a joke” by Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.

It follows leaked footage Sony’s PS3 cloud-streaming beta, which showed a user loading up PS Now and playing Killzone 3 over the cloud.

Speaking with Game Informer, Pachter said of PS Now, “PlayStation Now is a joke. There is no publisher that is going to license content that’s less than two-years old because they would be concerned that they can’t sell as many copies if they make it available for subscription or rental.

“This has no prayer of working. None.”

Pachter’s rationale is that publishers will not license their game for monthly streaming as it will dent their ‘per-unit’ sales, along the same lines as bands on Spotify.

What do you make of Pachter’s reaction?

I think PlayStation Now could totally, Sony just needs to use PlayStation Now in the right way.

I agree with newer games. But older games like PS1-2 for sure good idea

If Sony handles this right it may work, but i wouldn't expect a large library of games on there though. Just ones published or made by sony.

I feel like he's over-reacting. I mean, he could be right to an extent but, I do see it making some kind of business.

IamRCA Lol and another reason why xbox is better

Watch out, we got a guard in a watch tower scanning PS posts, looking to start a flame war with so much evidence to back up his claims such as "lol".

I thought Sony said there will be rental and even subscription offers to this service? Because if so, I'm down with that! If I can rent all the old classics I love playing to my PS4, I'd be happier than I ever was with an Xbox

Depending on sony's pitch to the companies about licensing this could work.

BBX It's going to be games like the games for gold program you can tell, all old and boring, although it will work in some way. Guaranteed I'll be called upon but it's truth.

Yes but isn't PS Now for PS1, 2 and 3 games on PS4? At least Games for Gold gave you Xbox 360 games, not crappy Xbox Original games.

Pint This is a very bad idea in my opinion, Sony don't need MORE money.

You, sir, know nothing about business.
