New Apple TV rumoured to support games

Unnamed sources claim forthcoming box will support wider range of services

A new 2014 iteration of the Apple TV will be capable of acting as a game console, according to rumours.

The unnamed sources have told 9to5mac.com that the new Apple TV will boast an App-based platform similar to iOS devices.

As a result, the Apple TV will be capable of running all manner of applications - including games.

Meanwhile, iLounge has been informed by unnamed but 'reliable industry sources' that Apple is developing Bluetooth controllers for the Apple TV. The sources say the platform's new App support will be backwards compatible.

The 9to5mac.com report also claims the Apple TV will continue to be a set top box, and is expected to release in the first half of 2014.

Apple acquired PrimeSense last year, the company responsible for the motion technology which Kinect is based on. The move prompted rumours that Apple is developing its own Smart TV.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook said last December that the company is planning to strengthen its position in the TV space.

"When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years," he said.

If this is referring on using Airplay and Airplay Mirror to stream games then I already made a tutorial on how to do it. Plus, no one needs a Bluetooth controller when 3rd party ones are already available.

My approved tutorial.

Gubbins Why would you want to play games on your tv from your phone? Most people have console or a computer.

Think of all the tech impaired housewives that spend 8 hours a day playing Candy Crush on their iphones. Pretty sure those luddites would think controlling a game on their TV screen with their phone is the bees knees.

Can't see it being very successful. Just like the Ouya.

I know I won't be buying an apple product. Apple products are always overpriced. But it's good to hear that the new Apple TV is 'rumored' to support games.

Lia Sounds pretty cool but I wonder how much this will cost. Apple products are always over priced :s

They have over priced products because there products are great.

They are over priced because they want money. Phones are all pretty much the same, only a few new features come out on each one.

I'm not really talking about their phones, I'm talking about apple products in general.
