XboxIE brings HTML5 games to Xbox One

4.6
The Xbox One doesn't have a lot of games in its official library yet (it launched just two months ago, after all) but this week it was revealed that a third party website has been launched which allows owners of Microsoft's console access to many more games.

The site is called Xboxie and while it was not made by Microsoft, it seems to have the unofficial stamp of approval from Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, the director of Xbox Live programming.

Next time you turn on your Xbox One, Say "Xbox Go To Internet Explorer" and open http://t.co/pASGfHu68p - You are welcome
— Larry Hryb (@majornelson) January 23, 2014

The site uses the Xbox One's version of Internet Explorer to offer a number of free HTML5-based games that can be played with the console's controller. While technically any HTML5 web game could be played on the Xbox One, nearly all of them are optimzed for a keyboard and mouse setup. The site's creators state, "So we at Xboxie search and test each game to make sure it runs smooth and plays well on a controller. So to sum up, if it's on Xboxie then you can play it on your Xbox One."

The collection of games, as you might expect, is mostly of casual titles but there are a few familiar names such as Pac Man, Cut The Rope and Bejeweled. The Xboxie team has pledged to reach out to other game developers so that more web-based games can support the Xbox One via IE.

I want it too, that would be so awesome.

I honestly don't even find happywheels to be that fun of a game.

This sounds pretty cool. I will probably most likely play Bejeweled but I am definitely going to try some of these out.

Pretty awesome. Good timing too cause I just about hate all of the games I have simply out of boredom. I went back to playing 360 games for a long time. I am dying for Minecraft to come back out, assuming it isn't a whopping $60 since that's how Microsoft robs us.

Pummpy1 Don't think it will be long now before we see huge games like Bloons TD on the XB1.
Can't wait anyway :)

Blooms TD would be so fun to play on Xbox.

Exactly, I think we should all start a petition to get them to develop it :)
