Rockstar cracking down on GTA Online cheaters

Guilty players may be placed in isolated cheater pools or banned altogether

Rockstar has announced plans to crack down on Grand Theft Auto Online cheaters.

The studio is to penalise players who, in recent weeks, have exploited the free-roaming multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto 5 by generating and distributing "game-breaking amounts of in-game cash". Guilty players may be placed in isolated cheater pools or banned from playing the game altogether.

On Monday, Rockstar released a GTA Online patch designed to boost anti-cheating measures and squash GTA$ and Reputation Points exploits.

GTA Online was then taken offline for maintenance starting January 15/16 at 9pm EST/2am GMT. Rockstar said on Thursday that the maintenance period, which is not expected to exceed 24 hours, will be used to remove counterfeit GTA$ from the game's economy.

"Anyone that innocently received GTA$ as a result of these exploits but did not engage in cheating to acquire it will not face any further action - the funds will just be removed , and you'll be able to keep any items you currently own," the studio said.

"Those who actively engaged in cheating and exploiting the game in this manner will, however, be subject to in-game penalties at our discretion. This may include being placed in isolated cheater pools or banned from GTA Online altogether.

"Should you ever encounter someone in GTA Online that appears to be taking advantage of exploits in your session, we ask that you alert us directly via the in-game reporting functionality. In the Pause menu, under the Online tab, select Players and scroll to the offending player. From there, select Report and choose Exploits from the violation options.

"We're grateful for the community's continued support in dealing with these issues and once again apologize to anyone that has had their Grand Theft Auto Online experience sullied by these exploits that broke the game's natural flow. Please stay tuned for lots more news about GTA Online in the weeks ahead."

stormchaser206 I still have my money. And I have $636m

That's weird, they might take it in a while, maybe they haven't got to everyone yet. Maybe spend it just in case.

Yeah. It will probably be taken next patch also

Well he better get rid of it somehow otherwise he could get banned, he must be in a slim group of people to still have their money

The only reason why most of us modded our money was because it is extremely hard to get money but if they would add heists then it would be a different story.

OfficialLeon Rockstar ruined their own game, don't promise heists in a trailer for the game before it releases and then tell us we have to wait until they decide it in a DLC. you make it extremely hard to earn RP and money people resort to hacking. Doing a 11 minute mission earning 5-10k at a time with only 3k rp at the most is too time consuming. Its 2014 and a major part of this game is missing. Im playing the next gen console i could careless about GTA V

i agree with you because its stupid that they haven't even brought heists out in this game which are the thing that everyone was most looking forward to......no wonder everyone is hacking we want to have fun on a game and not do the same stuff everyday also instead of bringing rubbish DLC like Beach bum out they could bring out a decent one

Hacking will be in any game. Why are you making it an excuse? With or without heists, there would be hacking. Hell, with heists it would be even worse. Rockstar didn't ruin their game. They came out with one of the best GTAs I've ever played. Good you don't play GTA anymore. You guys were probably one of the hackers and now that you can't do it anymore you quit. No on will miss you.
