Sledgehammer staffing up for 'next-gen Call of Duty game'

Studio seeking to fill positions across multiple disciplines for unannounced title

Sledgehammer Games is actively recruiting in a bid to strengthen the development team working on a next-gen Call of Duty game.

Earlier this week, parent company Activision posted more than ten Sledgehammer job adverts across a range of disciplines including art, design, animation and engineering. Multiple job ads note that the studio is "working on a next-gen Call of Duty game".

Formed in 2009, California-based Sledgehammer originally worked on an unfinished third person Call of Duty game before being drafted in to help Infinity Ward complete Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

While the nature of its new game remains a mystery, Sledgehammer general manager Glen Schofield told us in October 2011 that he thought the studio would work alone following its MW3 collaboration with Infinity Ward, the studio primarily responsible for 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts.

"This game has allowed both Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to hire, and we hired really strong teams, both of us," he said. "We needed to come together on this one, but since then we've both grown, we're both over 100 people now.

"Initially we weren't fully functional because we had to learn a new engine," Schofield added. "Now we have, I think the best thing that could happen for Activision would be for us to both go off and make our own game. Whether that's a Call of Duty game or not is up in the air. I plan to continue working on Call of Duty."

Georgasm The only people capable of making quality Call of Duty games are Treyarch.

False. The two best CoD games were CoD4 and Mw2. Made by IW. Black Ops and Black Ops 2 were trash. Only good thing about them were Zombies. And this is coming from a lot of people, not just me.

i agree there mate, without a doubt!

I disagree, IMO COD 4 and MW2 by infinity ward were really good if not the best, BUT Black Ops 2 was a VERY good game all around. Good multiplayer plus zombies was great. Also the campaign wasn't to shabby either. Also Black Ops 2 opened up the competitive COD seen to A VERY LARGE amount of people with the release of League Play which is something that really upped the game.

I've played every CoD game and have enjoyed them all. But I'm not a fan of Sledgehammer so this game may be a iffy.

Yes, IW died and they had to partner with Sledge just to survive.

daRealRush So now there is 3 different companies working on 3 different Call of Duty games. My question though, is why?

Personally I'm going to guess so people won't get "bored" with the same companies making CoD. That and it gives the other ones more time to try and make things better. Now they'll have 2 years basically once they get the rotation in proper order.

IW: Ghosts, 2 years to make new CoD, spends this year working on Ghosts DLC and patches and starts when Ghosts is no longer the new CoD.

Sledge Hammer: TBA, Has one year left to make a CoD. Don't know if they started last year so they might be having 1 year this time around and then next time, 2 years.

Treyarch: TBA, 2 years to make new CoD from whenever they started if they have started yet.

Or I just might have thought too much into this.
