Xbox One shouldn’t be last Microsoft console, says Spencer

4.6
Xbox One isn’t necessarily Microsoft’s last home console, according to Phil Spencer. He reckons home computation is still important for the time being.

It follows Spencer’s comments that mid-tier and indie games are harder to sell in the mass market, hence the need for a program like ID@Xbox.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Spencer posted the following:

@XboxP3 Tough question, but do you think Xbox One is the last console as "we know it"? You know, running on local hardware.

The need for physical components in the home – processors and the like – is still there, and it’s clear that Microsoft’s cloud compute is only shouldering a share of game processing for the time being.

As we saw with Sony’s PlayStation Now reveal last week, cloud computing is slowly becoming a trend in the industry. How long will it be before we ditch the boxes entirely? That’s another conversation.

There will be another console coming out, considering they said the life-span may be shorter than the 360, i would say around 6 years.

Hopefully next time around they wont market it as a TV.

-Water They make too much, and cost too much, to make one soon. There will probably be one within 10 years, however.

hopefully, but sooner the better I say, great way for them to make some money!

I don't think a new console will arrive for at least another 6 to 7 years. That will be when a lot of new features will be readily available to come to console. Plus the 360 will be able to go online till 2018 and then the servers will be cut so I'd say a few years after that and we will hear news about the next console.

gtapro151 i think it will be simply because ipads and phones will be just as powerful pretty soon here its only a matter of time before we can just wirelessly hook ipads up to the big screen and play xbox quality games.

this is a very far fetched idea, no games on iPad will have the power of Xbox games!

Did you seriously just say that? LOL. iPads are no where near the quality of xbox 360 games. Let alone xbox one.
