Second official Call of Duty Championship set for March

Activision to host 32 teams competing for $1m in prizes

Activision will host its second Call of Duty Championship from March 28 to 30 in Los Angeles, the publisher announced Thursday.

The championship will draw 32 teams from around the world to compete for a total of $1 million in prize money. Players will compete in Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One, with qualifying events in leading months held online and in person by international eSports organizations.

Regional tournaments and the finals will be broadcasted live on MLG.tv from late February through March.

Team Fariko Impact took home $400,000 USD in prize money after besting EnVyUs at last year's championship, which was also held in Los Angeles with a $1 million prize pool.

Infinity Ward has promised several impending adjustments to the game meant to improve its competitive play experience. The studio said Ghosts' spawning system is a particular area of development focus aside from thwarting cheaters and rebalancing weapons.

I wonder if optic will play in this tournament. They might not be as good since 2 of their best competitive players left the team.

Starbound I wish I could play in these kind of tournaments, but obviously they are only for pros. I'd love have some of 400k. I can't wait to watch it on Twitch!

I think this just even sometimes comes down to luck. Can't believe there's such money thrown around in CoD tournaments.

Kex $1m in prizes is a bit much for winning CoD games ain't it?

first place only gets 400k, their is 1m total in prizes

I find it sad that they get all that money just to play in a video game tournament.

look at football they get a s**t ton of money for kicking a ball
Yeah I think it's ridiculous.

Witsel This tournament is going to be good to watch, Optic or nV will take it this year

Here are the prizes
1st Place ($400,000)
2nd Place ($200,000)
3rd Place ($120,000)
4th Place ($100,000)
5th Place (70,000)
6th Place ($50,000)
7th Place ($35,000)
8th Place ($25,000)

Wow, that's a lot! I'd be satisfied with getting 8th place tbh.

Then again you have to keep in mind that even if you did take 8th place and won the $25k it ends up being divided by 4-5 people so its only about $5k-$5.5k a player + the coach if their team has one.

Reb I don't think COD is played by skill so should have anything like this.
I used to be good at COD due to luck..

I totally disagree with you there is lots of skill involved.

There's been a lot of drama with Optic recently.

CoL and tk are also really strong teams that could take it.
