Xbox One update 'will improve the Live experience'

Community criticism of social features has been "pretty valid", says Xbox exec

The first major Xbox One system update will focus on improving "the Live experience", making it easier for players to make use of the console's social features.

That's according to Xbox chief product officer Marc Whitten, who told Engadget about Microsoft's Xbox Live plans in an interview at the CES expo this week.

Whitten said development staff have been listening to fan feedback regarding the Xbox One dashboard and are hard at work making improvements based on gamers' comments.

"The feedback we've gotten is pretty valid," he told the site. "Some of the social stuff is hidden or harder to use than it was on the Xbox 360. So you're gonna see us come out with an update where, well, we're going to fix those things.

"As a person who's been pretty involved in building Xbox Live for the last decade, I take it pretty seriously when people say it's harder to get into a party, and the defaults aren't right, and I don't like the model.

"So what I'm trying to do with the team is kind of theme some stuff up. Let's take an update and really go through a big list of what we're hearing from customers, what we know is broken with the architecture, areas that we want to improve or complete.

"I think that's a theme you'll really see us push on: that Live experience."

Last week, Xbox's Larry Hryb stated that upcoming Xbox One updates would be shaped by fan feedback.

I hate that, every update they always pretty much say the same stuff. "This update will improve the user experience"

Nevertheless, hopefully it does improve the user experience.

Axe
Dreams good hopefully this will make my xbox run smoother its so slow

Is it really that slow? It can't be much worse than the 360.

If your Xbox One is slow, I assume you have never fully shut it down. When you say "Xbox turn off" or power down your system with the controller, it does not actually turn the console off. It merely puts the console into "standby mode" which is fine, this is what I do. However, standby mode does not allow the cache to be cleared, which can slow your system's performance. Until they add an interface to system storage, the easy fix for this is to manually clear your cache about once every week or two by fully shutting down your console. To do this, turn off your controller, then hold the power button on the console for approximately 10-12 seconds until the light turns off. Now, your console is completely shut down. In this state, it will not respond to "Xbox One" So, after a minute, press the power button on either your console or controller to turn the system back on. It takes a bit longer to power on this the "completely off" state, so give it a minute. Congratulations, your cache has been cleared and your console and system UI should now be back to full speed, like the day you unboxed it. As previously stated, I recommend doing this once every week or two. I hope this helps and clears up some people's misconceptions.

Lue At least they are listening to the community now :)

It's the best thing to do. Not listening to the community will just lose your customers.

I hope they improve it before I pick one up so I won't be disappointed at all with it!

-3D Ahh good :) I hope we can make our parties Invite Only, and also be able to join parties without leaving the current one!

You can make your parties invite only. When you have your party opened on screen, simply press the menu button(formerly start button). You're welcome.

That's certainly a good thing for the company to be doing. Hopefully they can continue this

They finally are making changes to hopefully compete with Sony. However, they are gonna have to be making some decisions and updating things if they want to contend with them in my opinion.

Hopefully this fixes most things.
