PS Now: Sony recommends 5Mbps connection
Sony has stated its recommendation of a 5Mbps internet connection for use with its newly-announced PlayStation Now cloud gaming service.
Revealed at CES on Tuesday, PlayStation Now will stream PS3 games initially (other platforms to follow) to PlayStation devices, Sony Bravia TVs and, in future, other Sony and non-Sony devices.
In response to questioning regarding bandwidth, a Sony has said it recommends users have a 5Mbps connection.
"In our internal tests, users with this bandwidth or greater have been enjoying a low latency, high-quality gaming experience," said the firm.
"PS Now tests your connection of each game and optimizes for quality if you are above the minimum requirements," it added, as we revealed in our PlayStation Now hands-on preview.
"We strive to make the gameplay experience feel as if the game is being played locally on their device - fast and responsive (including for FPS and games with twitch mechanics)," Sony went on.
"The Closed Beta will definitely provide a great opportunity to test the experience with gamers with varying connection speeds and our developers will, of course, be working diligently to optimize the service based upon the feedback we receive from the community."
The closed beta is scheduled to begin later this month. Sony has said nothing of beta applications or the scale of the test.

lilrichard22 Since this is Sonys doing and not Microsofts, it is suddenly "okay" to have an "always online" feature to play, even for single player games.
It's not required dumass. It's for those who want to play PS3 games on their PS4/Vita.

It's because this is to play old generation games, it's also optional. It wont make your console useless if you don't connect one every 24 hours. It's completely different.

Well this is good for me, I have 5Mbps of Download Speed. I wouldn't mind to upgrade my internet though, waiting for my ISP to upgrade their lines to them Fiber Optic cables.

joeisjoe5Urfjoeisjoe5 I assume you mean 5MB/s. Mb stands for mega-bits which is only 1 eighth of a mega-byte. So 5Mb/s is only 0.625MB/s which if you have internet, it is highly unlikely for you to have a slower speed than this.
Mine is actually slower. I have a 3Mbps line. It's quite depressing really but I'm not going with Comcast's ****. Waiting on FiOS to come around, which will be soon.
Mine is usually around 4-7MB/s but once it went down to .3MB/s so I know how annoying it is.
Buffering on 144p youtube vids FTW lol!
I actually get full 720p on most of the videos on YouTube. If no one else is using the line and it's 100% open I can watch CaptainSparklez and AntVenom in 720p.

LiaUneven Really? :D then my 120/12 DL/UP will be enough :D
I wish mine was that good. Mine is only 30/3
15/1 here... you're lucky and I am too compared to others

HDITeRRoRiZeI well in other terms, 625KB/s is slow compared to what i have. Thought it would be much higher than this.
Just saw your comment - I just made a similar one stating how I think they meant mega-bytes not mega-bits. It just seems more likely.
