PlayStation Now will benefit content creators, says Sony

“The whole concept behind PlayStation Now” is to take games to other devices, says Sony boss.

Sony boss Kaz Hirai has said that the newly announced game streaming service PlayStation Now will benefit games makers as well as consumers.

Speaking in a video interview with Engadget, Hirai said the concept of PlayStation Now has been knocking around the business for some time, but it’s only now that the infrastructure is in place to support the service.

“PlayStation Now is actually something we’ve always talked about but were not able to deliver because of network restrictions and latency issues,” he said.

“We’ve been working with Gaikai to really deliver a PlayStation experience through the network with the least amount of latency and ease of use. What that allows us to do is not only deliver PlayStation content to PS3, PS4 [and] PS Vita, but down the road it’s going to allow us to provide the same PlayStation service or content to tablets, smartphones – whether they be on android or on iPad, for example.

“That really expands the world of PlayStation beyond the PlayStation specific consoles and I think it bodes well for PlayStation and the content creators as well. And most definatley for the customers.”

When asked to confirm if Sony plans to push PlayStation Now out to non-Sony devices, he replied; “that’s the whole concept behind PlayStation Now.”

PlayStation Now was announced yesterday as part of Sony’s CES conference. The service will allow users to stream games to PlayStation 4 and Vita, and is due in the summer in the US.

Racist This was a good move on sonys part

I also think it was a pretty good move. Hopefully we see Sony continue the upwards trend that they have been going on

Axe Sony is definitely bring a lot of stuff to the table, and its really making me consider getting the PS4 instead of the Xbox.

I made the switch (i do own both now though) and i like my PS4 more. Now with backwards compatibility too, I'm perfectly pleased.

Same here man.

I didn't know that they had the backwards compatibility. Thats just one more reason to get it.

I didn't know that either. Damn Sony, they're slowly bringing me towards PS4 instead of Xbox One

I hope Xbox does something like this. It would be nice to indie game developers.

Aggie I really like this. I sure hope Xbox does something similar.

i hope they do too! would be dope

They've already said they won't strive for backwards compatibility or streaming as the hardware compatible for xbox 360 game usage is not implemented in the xbox one. So basically they've said it's impossible, but who knows what they may do, all I'm saying is don't get your hopes up :(

im sure theres a way to make games on xbox bc nothins impossible

I could see Microsoft doing a game streaming service now that Sony has decided to do one. Lets hope this is the case

I hope they see how successful it is going to be and create something similar. I'd love to play some old Xbox games again!

That would be awesome. I was kind of disappointed when i heard there was no backwards compatibility with the Xbox One.
