Sony announces PlayStation Now for streaming older games

4.4
Sony President Andrew House has announced PlayStation Now, a new games streaming service that aims to bring older PlayStation games to PS4, PS3, PS Vita and other devices.

PlayStation Now, which will stream games from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 eras first on PS3 and PS4, will kick off on PS3 with a closed beta in the US at the end of January, with a full rollout planned for some time this summer. Users will be able to rent games individually or pay for a PlayStation Now subscription. Sony aims to eventually expand the service beyond Sony devices too.

The foundation for PlayStation Now is Gaikai, the games streaming service Sony purchased for $380 million in 2012. Gaikai is responsible for a variety of PS4 features, including cloud gaming, Remote Play, Try Anything and Instant Broadcast, and other cloud services expected to launch later this year.

Four different PlayStation Now games are currently on-hand at the Sony CES booth: The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension and Puppeteer. So far, these are the only supported games Sony has announced.

DlCE This article lacks info such as, Sony stated if you wish to stream games they strongly recommend you need 5mbps. Which automatically takes me out of the running for this. As i live in a small town in rural georgia and only recieve 2.5-3mbps. Which is the max you can get down here.

Internet speeds are always improving, hopefully your area will get a speed increase soon.

Well i mean i can only use it on the vita as i dont own a ps4, I was going to get one but decided on getting a steam box or new pc as i already have the xbox one. SO to me i would only use it for a few games i enjoyed when i still had my ps3

DemonSurfer Don't really see much point in it TBH,i've had a PS3's for years and it's very rare i ever play any PS or PS2 games on it even though one of them is jailbroken so i can get any game i want but still don't.Mainly PSN stuff and obviously PS3 games.Maybe if you didn't own a PS or PS2 / 3 it might be worth it but only as a novelty. No i'm not a fanboy i own loads of consoles and yes i have a PS4.If it was free with PS+ maybe but not extra $'s.Playstation "Now" doesn't quite fit either, surely it should be Playstation "Then" or "Past"?

i don't own a PS3 but i do own a PS4 and i want to play TLOU i have been holding out on watching lets plays just for this. There is a point not everyone owns a PS3 dude i came from 360 to xbox one to PS4

I think it will be good for those people who are bored of the games they play now and either want to play old games they never got a chance to play or they want to relieve their childhood on games they used to play. Either way I love the idea!
