DayZ sales have passed 800,000 in under one month

DayZ sales have already passed Bohemia Interactive’s “very ambitious” plans for the survival horror sandbox.

Writing on Reddit, creator Dean “Rocket” Hall said he would have considered 250,000 sales in three months a success.

“So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy,” he said, revealing the latest sales figures.

The new milestone follows several others; DayZ managed 88,000 sales in tis first 12 hours, 172,200 sales in its first 24 hours, and topped the Steam charts at Christmas on the back of 400,000 sales in its first week.

“We’ll be finalising our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap,” Hall added.

DayZ, commonly referred to as “DayZ standalone” to distinguish it from the ArmA mod it originated as, is currently in early access alpha on Steam. Hall has described it as in a very rough state and for hardcore fans only, but it has been well-received anyway. It’s one of our most anticipated games of 2014.

Well dayz is a really fun game to play with friends so I won't doubt that they sell almost a million downloads of the game.

Wow, that's a lot of sales; it was quite a good idea to make a standalone after all.

DeTaiLz Real fun game, played the mod for 1000+ hours..

That's a lot of game time to be racked up on the mod ._.

Wubs I'm happy to see a game that is still under development sell so many copies.
More sales mean more money towards the development of the game.
Which means the final copy or at least a stable version can come sooner and be better.

The last part isn't true. Since bohemia could afford to hire an entire team to develop the game without the help of sales, they aren't in need of more people. Now they are clearly going to be able to pay those people longer, but other than that it probably won't change the pace. With a game like minecraft it was one guy working on a game in his spare time. Once he got funding, thats when he hired other people. So more than likely it won't make the final product any better.

Kex I don't know how.. it's a terrible game. Isn't even like a zombie apocalypse you hardly see any zombies

Well it's not like on TV where there are hordes everywhere. You're mostly out in the country where the population isn't that big anyway.

the zombies aren't necessarily the biggest part of the game. Force feeding people disinfectant and other silly things is one of my favorite parts of it
