Report: Wii U Outsold Xbox One Last Week

4.6
The alleged sales numbers for the week of December 21 have been revealed by VGChartz, and, according to the data, the Wii U outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One console globally last week.

As you can see in the chart below, the Wii U sold 319,860 units world-wide last week while the Xbox One sold only 307,366. Of course, neither systems come close to the numbers of the 3DS which sold 1,078,568 units last week to remain the top selling console in the World.

The news of the Wii U outselling the Xbox One is surprising due to the fact that Microsoft’s console is the newer of the two which has more “hype” at this time of the year. The fact that the Wii U sales are on the upswing can only be good news for a console, and a company, with high hopes for 2014.

Wow, that is really suprising. I am actually kind of happy for nintendo.

Aue Well, another reason this could have possibly happened was because Pokemon X/Y was developed in Japan, and in X/Y, when you started the game, a Wii U was in your room. Just a theory =/

That isn't bad advertising yet i wouldn't think that it would generate many sales. I personally didn't think of buying a Wii U when i saw one in my room while playing Pokemon Y

Thats just an observation I had while playing through Y again.

Insignia115 the wii u sold in japan while xbox one didnt sooo yeah

But then again, Microsoft hasn't ever held much ground in Japan (only less than 1000 xbox 360s sold during the week shown for Japan) compared to anywhere else in the world so this debunks the your theory.

slayerz43 Considering the Wii U got an extra 100,000 in Japan and the Xbox One doesnt even sell in Japan, this isnt that shocking. At least Nintendo is getting back on their feet.

Nintendo weren't ever off their feet...they've been dominating the hand-held for decades now and the WiiU is a lot of fun. The original article also states how less than 1000 xbox 360s were sold during that week to Japan alone and considering how Sony and Nintendo dominate that country, there wouldn't be enough more sales from Japan for the Xbone to justify the theory as a possibility.

Yur
Lia Seems like the Wii U is stepping up their game, can't believe they actually outsold the Xbox One.

Yep, but there is a price difference which is probably the main thing.

That's true and also the Xbox One doesn't sell in as many countries.

That doesn't dismiss the fact though that the Xbox One is new and has more hype.
