Xbox One is “uncapped”, according to Phil Harrison

4.5
The Xbox One is up and running and Microsoft VP Phil Harrison is excited about what the future holds for Redmond’s newest console.

“When you’ve been around for a long time, you know what platforms are like,” Harrison told OXM. “The games you celebrate and are proud of in the first year, when you look back at them from the perspective of ten years from now; you’d be amazed at the difference. It’s a combination of the tools getting better, developers beginning to understand the unique architecture to work with.”

Harrison credits the Xbox One’s flexibility of the cloud and that its potential will be unlocked over time.

“Crucially this time around, there’s the power of the cloud and what that means for game design,” he said. “That can grow and scale indefinitely – of course there is a practical limit but in effect you’re uncapped. And I think, from a player’s perspective, that’s the most exciting part; that it’s not just about the chips in the box under the television or wherever you position your console of choice, it’s about what the platform will provide you with over time. We’ve not had that in a console generation before.”

In addition to Game DVR, SmartGlass and Kinect integration, Harrison said that there were five other features in Microsoft’s pipeline ready to come out.

Unlockables I`ll probably wait till March for an Xbox One. ;)

Waiting isn't a bad idea, hopefully the price will drop in the foreseeable future

Also hopefully all the bugs with the console will be fixed, and there will be more games.

Well i wouldn't quite think all of the bugs will be fixed, hopefully most of the major ones will be fixed up though

J-E-T-S As much as I love the Xbox one, I am extremely disappointed with the size of their updates for games and system a like. Not only do these massive updates chew up time, but what Microsoft fails to realize is not everyone lives in Kansas city and has google fiber with super speeds and unlimited data. For instance, I received dead rising 3 and forza 5 for x-mas. I was greeted by 11 GBs of updates. That is 11 days out of my month that I would not be able to use at all for only activity during the month, considering on a good day my family averages around 1.3 - 1.5 GBs per day just gaming and browsing the internet. My point is, I appreciate all the things, that come with the system, they are great. But something has to budge here, either microsoft has to recognize the people with these data caps or the stuck up companies have to raise their data limits.

I understand where your coming since I used to have extremely slow internet but I hope you realize that games will not be getting smaller. Game developers can't make these awesome games and still stay under the disk storage limit. Also MS has nothing to do with it. PlayStation and Steam are exactly the same. What the problem is are internet providers who cause you to have slow downloads like ComCast, TimeWarner, AT&T, and Verizon who have set a limit so they can control the market. It's pathetic when you look at how far the US is behind in internet capabilities. I think we are something like 30 or maybe even lower in international average. While Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong have triple what we have. So the people that need to change are the internet providers. Google Fiber is doing something though and soon it will be where I live. Then I can go tell Verizon to go F themselves and their ridiculous rates.

Wish I'm excited to hear what new features will be released soon. I am waiting to get a next gen console, but this may persuade me to pick one up sooner rather than later.

When i first read this i thought the same thing but i will be waiting for 2-4 years as the price needs to go down $300 for me to buy it.

It's going to be quite a while before it hits $300.

Yeah i know im talking goes down $300 so $500-$300=$200
Im not paying that outrageous price for a console.

There is a good chance it wont ever hit $200.

Once it hits $400, i'm getting it
