Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson addressed recent rumors Friday that a Wii U version of the popular open-world sandbox game was in the works. While he did put the kibosh on the rumor, he did leave a glimmer of hope for owners of the Nintendo console.

"I am not aware of any plans to release a Wii U version of Minecraft," Persson stated on Twitter account.

"I agree a Wii U version would make sense, [by the way]," the Mojang co-founder continued. "The only reason for no current plans is we've got too much work already. I

Johnus I agree they should focus more on the next gen side of things, and the future of that.

Yeah, it would benefit them more making it for next gen rather than Wii U

wii u is next gen i dont know why ppl forget that

People forget about it because it is not as popular as the Xbox One and PS4.

It's still a pretty good console in my opinion. It's starting to pick up in sales and hopefully that trend will continue into the future

I think Minecraft on the Wii would be a fun idea. Not gonna lie.

I'm sure a Wii U version of Minecraft would be pretty cool. Using all the features of the controller, It would be very interesting what Mojang could do with that. Also, it would be a huge plus for Nintendo.

They would not make a lot of money doing this, if they want more money they should make a console that will revolutionize gaming.

I don't think it would be worth making it for Wii U since not enough people play it, at least I don't think so.

Mc-Lovin Nintendo is dying out :/

They could really do with a big game such as minecraft :)

Well seeming that the Wii U sold more than the Xbox One last week and the 3DS is currently the best selling console of this generation i wouldn't quite say that they are dying out.

Wii is inexpensive and can't play games at the quality PS4 and Xbox one can, how ever the games it does play have great game-play quality and tons of fun. For a casual to avid gamer a Wii U is perfect but for hardcore shooter gamers it will be a Xbox one or PS4, I own all three consoles and rarely play the Wii U how ever when I do I have tons of fun.

I personally think that the Wii U is to be used as more of a side console then a main. Meaning that if someone is into lets say.. PC gaming but still wants a console they would be best to go for the Wii U and not the other alternatives available.

disagree, i myself being a PC gamer would much rather the xbone, ps4 or even psvita/newest nintendo ds things they have. cause atleast with the xbone/ps4 you could have a couple friends over and play some decent games.

-Jacob It wouldn't be worth the time/effort. The majority of people who wanted to play Minecraft now own it on Xbox/PC.

Pretty much, while it would be cool there is no pressing reason to have Minecraft on the Wii U
