Sony dropping online play for Gran Turismo 5, Resistance trilogy

4.4
Gran Turismo 5 and the Resistance franchise will be pulling the online plug in early 2014. Sony has announced that Gran Turismo 5 will conclude its online features on May 20, 2014, with the Resistance franchise on PlayStation 3 following on March 28.

Also, as of January 28, 2014, the online connectivity of MAG, SOCOM: Special Forces and SOCOM: Confrontation will also cease to be. Since MAG and SOCOM: Confrontation are online only, we hope you enjoy your new coasters.

Oasis Not surprised at the other games but GT5?
So you release GT6, realise that it's not selling as well as you hoped, then decide to shut GT5???

Don't they realise that for the people that have never played a Gran Turismo, before buying a new one, most people try the old one first!

Bunch of amateurs.

Well it makes a bit of sense i guess, if players of Gran Turismo 5 want to play online they will now have to buy Gran Turismo 6.

What a stupid move to get people to get GT6, I bet lots of people will be angry at this decision, and I thought EA were bad for shutting down online servers after a few years.

ridiculous? yes but this happens more than is noticed.

It's a shame to hear about this

Wow, I honestly didn't see this coming, I wonder how long it will be until most of the online games are like this for the 360 and PS3.

That is horrible that they are dropping the servers for MAG, I used to play that game all the time!

Shame about MAG, I loved playing that before my PS3 broke, they should give you something to make up for it seeing as MAG is online only, and by taking it offline it's made what you paid for utterly useless.

Isn't Resistance 3 only a couple years old though? That's a shame. They should keep that one up even if there aren't a ton of players purely by principle.
