PlayStation 4 will be in short supply for the remainder of the year

The PlayStation 4 is one of the hottest consoles of 2013, and that trend figures to continue in 2014. However, it appears that those hoping to be able to buy the console in 2013 may have a challenge on their hands, as Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House claims that Sony is "supply-challenged" concerning the PlayStation 4 in 2013.

Speaking to The Guardian about the global launch of the PlayStation 4, House clarified that Sony is trying to meet the demand for the console, but the sheer number of fans wanting the console across the world means that it will take Sony until 2014 to really make sure the console is widely available:
"The goal was to have a very good number for the initial launch - that was true of the US, and it's also going to be true in Europe. The goal then will be to follow that up as quickly as possible, with another tranche of supply prior to Christmas. Then the plan is to keep our production at a sufficient state to at least, by and large, meet demand, if not fully address it. So I'd characterize it as being somewhat supply-challenged for the remainder of the calendar year, but hopefully we'll be able to satisfy that pent-up demand as we get out to January and February. The comparative for me is that we sold 3.5m units of the PlayStation 3 in our first fiscal year - the launch through to the end of March - and the goal for the PlayStation 4 is to sell at least 5m units in that period."
The CEO also spoke about the next wave of games coming to the PlayStation 4, and which games he is looking forward to playing the most in 2014:
"Looking further out, we have Driveclub coming and Infamous. We took the decision with Driveclub to push its launch date out, because we want it to be a really great experience that carries the PlayStation 4 banner, and I'm confident that the guys are hard at work making sure that it does that. Within roughly the same period, I think you'll see a really fantastic experience with Watch Dogs as well."
It seems as though the Sony bigwig is excited to see what will happen in 2014, despite the relative shortage of PlayStation 4 console that are available in 2013.

Stex There new and shiny, of course they are going to sell fast :D

The demand for the current generation of consoles is huge just as we all expected it to be, supply shortages such as this should be expected more or less

Katsumi While this is a bit of an inconvenience it was kind of expected, hopefully they can have good stock at the beginning to next year so i can pick one up for myself

They only have low stock because they are giving them out in to many places ...

what do you mean by that? i don't quite understand
He means that too many people are selling them in different stores and retailers, even online

I see, makes a lot of sense actually. Hopefully they get stock in my area in the near future

Mr-Crocker It makes me angry I didn't preorder.. But this news article is incorrect in a way. I work at Best buy. And We get shipments of 3-4 of them every sunday.

That's not a lot of consoles every week.
