Xbox One hard drive becomes full at 362 GB

4.8
When Microsoft launched the Xbox One in November, it did so without a way for their owners to find out how much free space was left on their 500 GB hard drive. At the time, Microsoft said that storage management was "automatic", adding, "By being smart about how storage is managed, Xbox One keeps everyone playing, watching, and sharing their entertainment content rather than worry about limitations."

Well, as it turns out it is possible to max out the available storage on an Xbox One if you install enough games and apps on its hard drive. IGN posted up a video that shows the maximum amount of available space on the drive for users is about 362 GB or so.

That limit was reached after installing 20 of the Xbox One's 23 launch titles. In a statement sent to IGN, Microsoft said the rest of the 500 GB space is used for the OS and the first party apps that are already available on the console.

While most people won't be buying and installing all of the Xbox One's launch games, the hard drive space issue will become a problem down the road as more and more games for the console are released. Microsoft has promised that it will update the console to accept external hard drives but so far there's no word on when that will be released.

Why can't they just allow third part HDDs? Surely that would end this issue.

HOF Most people wont even get that high i barely used up any on my 360 i play. But games are coming out and people could download a lot of them and it is possible!

The problem is 360 games are a fraction on next gen games in size. Some games are over 40GB, with mandatory installs this will fills uprising lay fast.

Many people won't hit that limit.

For me, if I even had an Xbox One I would wait until Externals are supported.

And do the same for my 360 and just have a 2tb External.

Lot I probably wont end up using the 362 any way

I could see people using it all up in the long run due to the increasing size of games. At the moment i couldn't see many people doing it though

Because you shouldn't be stuck with 362 gb either way. What if you want to play the game that the XB1 uninstalled, we'll wait another 15-30 minutes before you play.

The system looks when the last game was played & removes based on that, so if you haven't played said game in 30days it will remove that one. And if you haven't played it in a long time more than likely you won't care its removed.

Unfortunately its the way it is, its meant to be a no fuss system & it is.

To remove DLC/Addons for games you need to press Menu on said game & then goto the Addons section, for people that don't know.

Download queue is located in the Apps & games section, press menu on a downloading file to pause or remove, also if you pause the next in line will start downloading, or you can select the one you want to download first press menu & pick download.

The system has everything you need bar a save file manager, but then again games have ways of removing them. (Forza 5 on the press (A) screen press LB+RB+LT+RT to remove your save)
