MS warns against using fake Xbox One backwards compatibility "trick"

Microsoft made the Xbox One with the understanding that there would be no way to offer true backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games. However, it appears that some people are trying to trick other Xbox One owners to activate the previously discovered game development kit code in an attempt to play Xbox 360 games.

Microsoft has already discouraged people from using the code to enable the development features on the Xbox One, but apparently a JPG image has been making the Internet rounds today with a procedure to use that code in a way to get the console to recognize Xbox 360 games. There's just one big problem; the procedure is fake and all it will do is brick an Xbox One console that costs $500.

Microsoft's head of Xbox Live programming Larry Hryb has also weighed in on this issue with his Twitter feed:

"To be clear there is no way to make your Xbox One backwards compatible & performing steps to attempt this could make your console inoperable"

So basically, if you see any claims about a special cheat code to get Xbox 360 games to play on an Xbox One you can safely ignore it.

Axe If your that desperate to play 360 games, then why don't you just play the 360?


Pretty much this. I would bet that most people who own an Xbox One at this point would of previously owned an Xbox 360, or you could just simply buy one for around $70


the 4gb version was 100 dollars at black friday. I went with my mother and she raised one up across the store and was like "yeah?" And I was like lol no. I also bought a 3DS XL, the highrule and lowrule version. Also came with A link between worlds, which is the only game I currently own.


How much did the 3ds run you down? you should also consider getting some games like Fire Emblem Awakening and Pokemon X/Y for it. There are a few other amazing games out for the 3ds as well

They are cheaper used at gamestop and the older versions... the one you saw was prob a new 4gb slim

imgur I saw this on 4chan last night, this is wonderful. This is almost as good of a troll as the iOS7 waterproof troll. My god, if you fall for this you deserve it. Why would MS not advertise a feature everyone wants? You'd have to be pretty gullible.
