MS warns against using fake Xbox One backwards compatibility "trick"

4.4
Microsoft made the Xbox One with the understanding that there would be no way to offer true backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games. However, it appears that some people are trying to trick other Xbox One owners to activate the previously discovered game development kit code in an attempt to play Xbox 360 games.

Microsoft has already discouraged people from using the code to enable the development features on the Xbox One, but apparently a JPG image has been making the Internet rounds today with a procedure to use that code in a way to get the console to recognize Xbox 360 games. There's just one big problem; the procedure is fake and all it will do is brick an Xbox One console that costs $500.

Microsoft's head of Xbox Live programming Larry Hryb has also weighed in on this issue with his Twitter feed:

"To be clear there is no way to make your Xbox One backwards compatible & performing steps to attempt this could make your console inoperable"

So basically, if you see any claims about a special cheat code to get Xbox 360 games to play on an Xbox One you can safely ignore it.

I've heard countless times that it's not backwards compatible before this even occurred. People who tried this and may have bricked consoles I feel sorry for. What it runs off should be explanatory although it would be pretty dang cool

Lye I personally think it's unfair in the first place that the fact you cannot play xbox 360 games on the new xbox one console. You spend $500 on a console plus the extra $60 for a game then $45 for the gold membership. In total you almost spend 1K on a console, which has not much more intelligence than an xbox 360, this is why I'm sticking with the xbox 360.

End of.

Thats what i was sayin dude u spend just about
A grand that console should be able to turn into
A robot or something that fetches u drinks and stuff lmao

500 is half of a grand. It's not that close to a grand bro.
The same way early 360 models didn't have an HDMI port but the later ones did, we may see a model or update that supports BC in the future.

That will never happen, if they didn't do it Day One, why would they wait, they already knew people wanted it backwards compatible.

Jayden- Wow, I wonder how many children have fallen for this and ended up with a bricked Xbox One. Kind of sad actually, to even believe there is a way to make your xbox backwards compatible.

Probably a lot. They don't tend to listen to real sources.

i mean your not forced into getting it....they clearly state it wont play older games so its not like we are tricked or anything...you mentioned price with the ability to play 360 games the price would be 100$ more or even 150 more just to have old hardware in somthing new it dosent make any sense why buy a new console to play old games that wont be any better then being on the 360?

RIAA They don't need to make the hardware backwards compatible, just release a software emulator like they did for the Xbox360 to play Original Xbox games.

What software emulator was that
I dont recall anything like that except
For a jtag/rgh
