MS warns against using fake Xbox One backwards compatibility "trick"

4.4
Microsoft made the Xbox One with the understanding that there would be no way to offer true backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games. However, it appears that some people are trying to trick other Xbox One owners to activate the previously discovered game development kit code in an attempt to play Xbox 360 games.

Microsoft has already discouraged people from using the code to enable the development features on the Xbox One, but apparently a JPG image has been making the Internet rounds today with a procedure to use that code in a way to get the console to recognize Xbox 360 games. There's just one big problem; the procedure is fake and all it will do is brick an Xbox One console that costs $500.

Microsoft's head of Xbox Live programming Larry Hryb has also weighed in on this issue with his Twitter feed:

"To be clear there is no way to make your Xbox One backwards compatible & performing steps to attempt this could make your console inoperable"

So basically, if you see any claims about a special cheat code to get Xbox 360 games to play on an Xbox One you can safely ignore it.

At least they are stopping people from bricking a $500 device.
So you cannot blame them for your own ignorance of bricking your console.

This is why you dont give people developer options.

If I were the guy who made the jpg I would feel so bad for bricking consoles.

This is why you don't put Dev features on the Xbox. They made it where you can system update via USB?.....You are just asking for people to break their console.

-CP I have been posting this everywhere and I know I have gotten many people bricked. I do the same thing in telling people to delete System32 and they do that too. I love stupid people!

you wouldn't appreciate someone doing that to you. if you were to do that to me i would track your ip and personally sue you.

If you attempted to sue him your lawyer would just laugh at you blatantly.

Actually considering my mom is a lawyer and that he legally would have to pay for a new one.

Good luck passing that one through the courts. I personally don't think it will go through

Tracking ips is illegal he can counter sue

You see thats where you're wrong. Tracking IPs CAN be illegal, not every way of doing it is illegal. If a packet of data which happens to carry said "OP" passes through your network, say through an xbox live party, and you intercept and decode said packet to find what data is on it and its the ip; thats legal.
