Nvidia: “the PC platform is far superior to any console”

4.6
Nvidia’s consumer sales manager Matt Wright has stressed that PC is the gaming platform of choice, and that its functionality makes it “far superior” to consoles. He recognises that some staunch console players may need some extra convincing however.

It follows the UK and European PS4 launch.

Speaking with MCV, Wright said, “We are proposing small form-factor PCs to be a viable alternative to the next-gen consoles. Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC. The PC platform is far superior to any console when it comes to gaming, plus you get all the extra functionality that a computer brings.”

He added that from the outside looking in, PC gaming may appear more complex and technical to the layman, but stressed, “We want to make PC gaming as simple as possible and we think that it already becoming much more relevant and appealing to casual gamers,”

Steam also helps. “Steam now has more users than Xbox Live,” Wright concluded. “There is a whole new generation who grew up playing on PC with titles like Minecraft or World of Tanks. There’s a huge community who love playing their games on PC.”

What’s your take? Are PS4 and Xbox One already obsolete? Is PC the way forward? Let us know what you think below.

LeScizor Just from a quick browsing of the comments: People argue that a Controller is better than a keyboard. I'm going to estimate that 90% of those people are regular Xbox/Ps users, and have never thought of getting used to a keyboard. Keyboards offer MUCH superior bindings, and a mouse far surpasses Joysticks if you get the hang of it. Also people saying that you spend so much more on a PC. Also false. If you spend $700 on a PC now, then you'll be spending hundreds, even thousands, less than console gamers on games. I can get games for $20 that you spend $60 on, and so forth. You get a Computer that you can also use for much more than a Console. Another valid argument: "What do you learn from playing on the Xbox? How to play Call of Duty correctly? How to yell at small children? Well what do you learn from using a PC? Useful career skills, a knowledge of the future technology? If you answer these questions you will know the obvious choice."

Ask anyone who has recently switched over to PC, it's a far more enjoyable experience. Also, with Cyber Monday close and Christmas, it's the best time of the year to build your dream machine. Now this is just my opinion, you're just as much entitled to one as I am, and I just hope you all enjoy playing Video Games on whatever platform you own!

This is probably the best argument I've seen on this article yet, so I'd like to build off of this a little more if you don't mind.

I switched over to PC about 5 months ago, and before that I was a heavy console gamer, so I feel I'm not terribly bias with this matter.

The biggest thing you mentioned for PC is the amount of money you eventually save, and I completely agree. I picked up L4D2 in the Steam summer sale for $5, while all the consoles still have it set to $25 last time I checked. Microsoft and Sony are extremely stingy with their "special sales", which save for Microsoft's recent free gold game campaign, are horrendous. Sure, I dropped $1.5k from a part-time job on my power rig, but it's more than possible to only spend $700-$800 for a rig that can run just about anything with reasonable graphics and frame rate. Still, the amount we save over console players via the insane Steam/Origin sales definitely pins us above when you compare console gamers trading in games to Gamestop for $2 a piece that they spent $60 on just 2 months ago.

Other point you brought up that I like is how much superior keyboard/mouse is to controller. My first PC gaming experience was the original Counter-Strike, and god knows how horrible I was with a keyboard. Dropped it after that and then along came the Minecraft Alpha. As long as people truly memorize the keyboard layout (honestly guys, it's really not hard)... It's quicker and a lot more instinctive. As for mouse, find the right dpi setting and you're good to roll.

Anyways, guess I gotta hand it to PC. Ever since building my own (which was an incredible learning experience and I've already built 6 other computers with my hands for friends now), my consoles have become nothing short of Netflix/YouTube machines for the occasional Persona 4 and Gears of War 3. When you factor in emulators, Steam Sales, actual real-world practicality, and hehehe pirating, PC is just the way forward.

PC is clearly better, you can make your own games if you wanted. The closest thing to customization (game wise) on xbox is tenth lobbies

The PC will always be more advance because you customisation is huge, Microsoft and Sony have to include components in their consoles which people can afford. They cannot release a $2000 console because it wouldn't sell.

PC is better, however people like to just log on and play, but people dont know how easy PC is.

PC is more superior but more costly, but the money pays off in the end.

PC will always be superior, everyone knows it.

PC will always be better than any console because you have way more freedom with it. The only advantages of playing on a console is that they are easier to use, they have some exclusive games, and they get DLC early.

In my personal view as a PC gamer PC gaming only has one downfall - release dates games like GTA 4 were 8 months later for PC than console, GTA 5 hasn't even been announced yet, even ACIV was 22 days after the console. Apart from that PC is better in every way! Even price as you get what you pay for :)

lFallout too much "pc IS better, but"
no. Pc is definitely better in any scenario. All you gotta do is study for a couple weeks about building and you're set.
Not by a long shot is PC better in every way...

So, care to elaborate on why not? I mean.. Taking a look at the consoles, a PC can do 99% of the things that the consoles can, and a better job at it too. The only major exclusivity are the range of games.

It's such a 'console fanboy' thing to say to just put "no, they aren't.. you are wrong".

and to the original comment, you don't even need to research. I bought all of the components for my current PC a few weeks back. I managed to get my computer built, installed Windows, and download all the latest drivers/updates within about 5 hours from start to finish.

Uh how about not everyone can afford to build a pc or buy new parts every few years.

I agree. When I first got my 360 I got Call of Duty 4. I bought my xbox for myself 2 days before my birthday and I bought Call of Duty 4, and my parents bought me $20 3 month membership for my birthday. That money I had, had been saved for ever since we did not have a lot of money after the Housing market crash, it really **** us over. And I saved my money for like 3 years and finally bought a 360. And played Cod4, for over a year, and after 6 month WaW came out I got it. I use to not have the money to upgrade often. I doubt I would be able to now either.
