Xbox One: MS banning users from Skype and Upload Studio for swearing

4
Xbox One gives you the ability to record your voice to accompany a gameplay clip and upload it to Xbox Live using Upload Studio, and it appears that multiple users have been temporarily banned for swearing in those clips.

Polygon has collated a set of reports from various places, such as the Xbox forums and a Reddit thread suggesting that users were banned for uploading gameplay clips in which they use profanity, it is unclear what is considered profanity. The banned users are unable to use Upload Studio or upload any clips they captured.

Microsoft appears to have lifted the ban for one user on Reddit by the name of MakVolci, he said, ” Okay I got a hold of a Microsoft representative. They’ve told me that my standing is “good” and don’t see an issue with my account – I’m in ‘good standing’.” He later added, ” I hopped on Upload Studio about twenty minutes ago and tried it out. It is now working for me, and I was successfully able to upload my Kinect footage and DVR footage to both Xbox and SkyDrive. It appears as though the Upload Studio suspension is a 24 hour suspension, as I believe it was for me.”

One Twitter user is reporting that he’s not able to use Skype for swearing in a private call, and receiving the following message:

Users who have been banned for using profanity in their Upload Studio clips are also reportedly being banned from using Skype. Polygon has reached to Microsoft for a comment.

TheHoodedYankee They ban you for swearing? That's stupid!

Xbox is supposedly directed towards families. I still think that this is a pretty dumb thing to be banned for, but people will just have to accept it and just not swear.

Microsoft is allowed to make whatever policy it wants for its business. That also means "evolving" or changing it later. Thus even if last year, they didn't have a zero tolerance about profanity forusers, they're allowed to do so now.
We can say things without profanity, though obviously profanity adds to some people's personality, character, and so forth that makes them who they are in their commentary, description and so forth. In that way it is restrictive.
Add to this that the profanity isn't actually stopped, since the games themselves contain it, and it starts to seem like an increasingly strange policy. Also, why not allow for certain areas to be that awful thing called "family-friendly" and others more adult-orientated, with a warning or disclaimer?
I dislike zero-tolerance and all-or-nothing approaches, especially when they can be solutions. I don't see why Microsoft couldn't "evolve" to do so later, though.

Qlu That's insane!
Imagine they did this on Xbox 360, everyone would be banned lol

How so? We can't even use Skype on the 360 and plus they're only banning people have uploaded videos of them swearing.

DrRageface People aren't being banned for swearing in general. Those that are being banned are those that are uploading videos with cussing in them. Microsoft confirmed this. But there is no actual proof that they are banning people for their private calls. And to me it sounds like these rumors are by people trying to bash the Xbox One. Until there's proof people can't just take these rumors for facts.

Very true, I don't think Microsoft would ban people in there private sessions either.

There should be a petition for this but what's the point, they'll never do what we want.
