Apple buys developer of original Kinect tech

4.7
Apple of iProduct fame has acquired PrimeSense, the Israeli firm behind the 3D sensing tech in the original Kinect for Xbox 360. No official price tag was put on the purchase, but rumors of the acquisition last week speculate a cost of $345 million.

"Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans," said Apple to the BBC.

PrimeSense noted the acquisition to Engadget in a brief statement, "We can confirm the deal with Apple. Further than that, we cannot comment at this stage."

The current Kinect bundled with Xbox One does not use PrimeSense's tech and was developed in-house at Microsoft.

-LAHWF Jeez, $345 million. Just pocket cash for Apple.

Yeah no kidding. Apple has money to blow.

I wouldn't quite call $345 million insignificant for any company. Despite how big they are the value of money stays the same. $345 million is a quite significant figure

Cokes Interesting, wonder what could happen.

They may be considering integrating it into the iPhones or maybe some of the Macs.

Durant Really hope they integrate this into to the next iPhone or iDevice. I think some amazing apps would come out of it.

They should do! IF not they will possibly make a new gamin console or put it in the new Macbook scheduled for late 2014 release

Lavish Kinect is a lot more advanced than what people think.
I think this is great news for Apple and the future of electronics.

Well.. the point is that Kinect just.. didn't work the way that we wanted it to.

How do you figure that?
Kinect is ever advancing and if you look at the modded Kinect on YouTube, there is a lot of features that are just hidden within the Kinect and just take a certain program to access.

I never knew that about the Kinect but it is really advanced. I guess this is good for Apple
