Sony: 'Less than one percent' of PS4s have issues

4.5
Sony addressed numerous reports of defective PlayStation 4 systems this week, and estimated that the number of damaged consoles is relatively low.

"The number of affected PS4 systems is less than one percent, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction," a Sony representative told Engadget. "We understand the frustration of consumers that have had a problem and are working with them and our retail partners to help troubleshoot issues and ensure affected units are exchanged."

Given that several issues were reported to Sony, the hardware manufacturer believes "there isn't a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units." The company previously said it is investigating "isolated" PS4 issues and offered troubleshooting steps for players experiencing "blinking blue light" problems.

LaserShow At least it's not on the same level as the Xbox 360's RROD which is considered the worst hardware failure rate in history of any electronic hardwares. What was it, 30% failure?

Yeah that did suck but people just began learning how to open their Xbox up and fix it. Although that was not ideal at all.

Aggie I highly doubt that this stat is true. There is always going to be a problem is some way or another with all electronic devices at release. Bugs should just be a way of life now a days.

My PS1 still works. Found it last week at my mum's house. Only the L1 button broken on the controller too (but I can buy one at a retro game store). They don't make consoles like they used to!

Tactical_Luck_Gaming Sorry, but I think a product should be working on launch day no matter what, if there is a chance of failures, then it is not a ready product, or the manufacturer is too cheap to use higher quality parts...I'm sure it is higher than 1% anyways that they are saying, but even if not...1% of 1 million consoles is 10,000...That is a really high amount of failure, not in just the first year, but the first week of it launching...

Sorry but you do not understand business or computer hardware.

First off some hardware does come not functioning. It happens ALL THE TIME in the PC world. Less than one percent is actually pretty reliable compared to some models of RAM, Motherboards, PSU, etc. There is a reason most expensive hardware nowadays have big warranties.

Also from a business stand point Sony HAD TO RELEASE IT ON TIME. If they did not their stock would plummet and they would suffer huge financial losses.

Umm, I think I do know a thing or two about Computer Hardware, I have a degree in Computer Network Management. I have never recieved a new piece of hardware that did not work when I got it, maybe after using it after a few months at least, not getting it brand new out of box, not working.

I think the people that recieved broken consoles would gladly fight you on the proposal about them having to launch it, I don't know anyone that says "I don't care if there is a chance it **** up on me, give it to me now!"

Lol ps4 customers wanted their consoles on Nov 15th. Pushing it back saying "There's a possibility that less than 1% of the consoles may have some sort of issue or bug," is not going to do well for the company and the customers. Like i said before, customers are stupid. In other words, they had no option to push it back.

I mean it's not like 1 mil consoles are bricked and it's not like people who's consoles aren't working aren't receiving a new console.

Oh and there are MILLIONS of products that doesn't work at launch. From cars to toys there will be bugs if it's a new design / concept. And high quality parts? No one is going to spend Ferrari money on a gaming console or they would be into high tech pcs.
