Battlefield 4 PC servers hit by DDOS, while crashes plague PS4 version

4.5
This past weekend was a rough one for Battlefield 4, with DDoS attacks hitting the PC game and myriad crashes infesting the newly-launched PS4 version.

Over the past few days, it has been nigh-impossible to connect to servers in the PC iteration of Battlefield 4 thanks to an unnamed group attacking EA's Origin servers. Initially the publisher posted a statement to the main page of Battlelog stating that attacks were occurring and that the company was working to mitigate them, but as Kotaku reports, this message has since been removed. Despite this, one of the game's community representatives offers the following in the game's forums: "[W]e are being targeted by a DDOS, but working on fixing it asap. Im sorry somebody is ruining your and my day. Rest assured we are doing our best to mitigate the situation though."

The PlayStation 4 game saw even worse issues, with players reporting crashes, a total inability to connect to Battlefield 4's "Conquest" game type and periodically deleted save games. EA's immediate response involved adding a new server and issuing a sizable patch, but as I can personally attest, the crashes and deleted save files continue to be an issue for some players.

On Sunday, the publisher posted a message to its Help site pinning the blame on the PS4's recent 1.50 firmware update. Specifically, it claimed that "this update ... results in stability issues while playing games on the system," and that all games are affected, not just Battlefield 4. This message has since been retracted, and in its place you'll now find a simple, "The message on EA's Help site was posted in error."

Dominating Well this was bound to happen with the PS4 version. For PC gamers. I hope those people get lives.

You're on a technology forum. Your username is Dominating. You have a picture of an underage girl as your avatar. You're in no position to tell anybody to "get a life".

Dine I wonder why someone would want to DDOS battlefield? and I wonder who it is.

Just a group of people who have nothing constructive to do with their lives.

Strobe LOL there's no way an EA company should even be touched by a DDoS attack. They'd have to get a huge group (and i mean like over 30 people with EXTREMELY powerful tools) in order to affect the servers. And even then, there should be some sort of failsafe for them if this happens. They should even have some place to direct the attack and be able to support people still playing...
I don't know, I'm no expert, but that's just my $0.02.

Having a huge company does help, but it doesn't matter when the hackers have your "mailing address" and is just sending tons of spam. That's a DDOS attack, but think of it in thousands of servers getting spammed with hundreds of GB's an hour.

When it comes to hacking, you do not need an army to take down a server(s) especially EA servers. EA likes to keep servers up 80% of the time for there major games and generally all there sport games but games like Skate 1, 2, & 3 have all experienced server shutdowns and Skate 1's MP was completely shutdown. A single hacker could use a BotNet therefore giving him enough power depending on ow many bots or shells he has, to take down 1 if not more servers without even trying. If you take a group of hackers then have them all use a BotNet or a high powered booter all against the same target... It's not gonna end well for said target. More known organization named Anonymous hacked into the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, Secretary of Defense and more just to prove a point, so it literally requires no skill to do this to EA. They were almost asking for it to happen, and if you guys are not familiar with hacking then please don't leave a comment acting like you do because it just makes you look even more stupid, no offense.

Dreams lol whats the point in hitting it offline never understood why people ddossed

I find it very hard to understand why people would go out of their way to do it as well. I find it incredibly stupid
