PlayStation 4 sold 1 million units in first day of availability

4.4
PlayStation 4 sales passed the one million mark within the console's first 24 hours at retail, Sony announced this morning. The PS4 launched in North America on November 15, so that figure is restricted to the US & Canada; the console comes to Europe on November 29, and Japan on February 22, 2014.

SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton predicted 3 million sales by the end of the year, and with the European launch to come, that's looking eminently realistic. Sony is targeting that figure to rise to 5 million by the close of the company's fiscal year in March 2014, by which point the console will have reached Japan.

According to data gatherer NPD, Sony only sold 197,000 PS3 units to the US in its first two weeks of availability, with shortages of supply to blame. Around this time last year, the Wii U sold 425,000 units in the US within its first week at retail, with Nintendo going on to ship 3 million units worldwide by the end of 2012.

Xbox One will sell over 15 million on launch I reckon.

This isn't a big shock to me, seeing as Sony hasn't released a home console since the PS3!

I wish I were one of those million.

These figures come from where exactly? Sony? I'm not saying it isn't true by any means but believing everything you read without even checking another source seems a little gullible don't you think?

Sony's main advantage is Japan/Asian markets.
Microsoft can't really dominate the US market simply because it's too big and Sony will always have a large enough percentage.
Microsoft won't ever be able to contend in the Asian markets because that's where Sony's roots are and where a large portion of their sales come from.
If it wasnt for Asia, Microsoft would have a huge advantage.
