PlayStation 4 sold 1 million units in first day of availability

4.4
PlayStation 4 sales passed the one million mark within the console's first 24 hours at retail, Sony announced this morning. The PS4 launched in North America on November 15, so that figure is restricted to the US & Canada; the console comes to Europe on November 29, and Japan on February 22, 2014.

SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton predicted 3 million sales by the end of the year, and with the European launch to come, that's looking eminently realistic. Sony is targeting that figure to rise to 5 million by the close of the company's fiscal year in March 2014, by which point the console will have reached Japan.

According to data gatherer NPD, Sony only sold 197,000 PS3 units to the US in its first two weeks of availability, with shortages of supply to blame. Around this time last year, the Wii U sold 425,000 units in the US within its first week at retail, with Nintendo going on to ship 3 million units worldwide by the end of 2012.

Furyan That's actually not that good, America is huge and only 1 million?
The Xbox One will sale that.

That's all they have. They don't just magically make a console.

I love playing video games. I hate fanboys. I'll be glad when we're past the launch window for both systems so that some of us can have discussions about gaming platforms that aren't dominated by insecure, immature screaming designed to make them feel better about their purchase.

OT: This is HUGE for a console launch, but not in comparison to how big the US is. 350 million people with only 1 million consoles bought... come on now theres over 1 million people playing CoD on the 360 still every day.

ZENU96 Sony sold almost 5 times more PS4's than they did for PS3's, that's insane!

Are you retarded? 197,000*5 = 985,000. And they sold over 1 million PS4s in its FIRST 24 HOURS, and 197,000 PS3s in its FIRST TWO WEEKS. Your comment doesn't make any sense at all. They sold WAY more than 5 times PS4s on launch day.

The PS4 will outsell the Xbox One on the Xbox One's launch day. That's pretty pathetic, Microsoft.
