PS4: some HDMI issues can be attributed to metal piece in port
According to the site, the HDMI port itself was the issue, not the console, due to a piece of metal not being flush with the bottom of the port.
Because the metal piece wasn’t square with the entry point, it kept the HDMI cord from being plugged in all the way. It would also damage the cord in the process.
The fix: press the piece of metal down so it’s no longer sticking up; plug the cord back in and it works.
The cause of the problem is unknown, but sounds like a manufacturing issue, and it is unknown if users other than Kotaku have experienced the same issue. But, it’s better to be safe than sorry – so check your system to make sure if you are having HDMI issues.
Sony acknowledged on launch day that there had been “several problems reported,” and nothing singular impacting a broad percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represented less than .4% of shipped units to date, said the firm, which is “within our expectations for a new product introduction.”
Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida said at the time the issues were “isolated incidents” and last night EA suggested several gameplay issues being experienced were due to PS4 firmware update 1.50 before retracting the statement as being posted in error.

xSTaTiCBLuExLaserShowBendUrflilrichard22CyimkingThird_Eye The problem with game companies these days is they believe they can just fix it all. Why do we get incomplete and buggy-as-sh*t games? The companies can utilize online connection to release updates and fix it. A broken HDMI port is indeed a hardware issue, but these guys gotta stop slacking.
The problems with people like you is that you expect perfection for some unknown reason. I would like you to develop a console and have a perfect launch. Matter of fact i would like you to make a simple pacman game without any bugs. Shut the F up and stop expected perfection. On another note, how is it "buggy-as-sh*t"? You don't even have the damn console.
You act like it's fine to buy a broken 400 dollar system. I understand why people expect it to be perfect it costs that much. It's their job to make it perfect and have no bugs.
No, it's their job to make a console. The general population has the assumption it'll be perfect and with no bugs. NOTHING is perfect and has no bugs.
No. its theyre job to finalize it and make sure there isnt little stupid issues like this. id be pretty pissed of if it ended up breaking my console
It's not easy to make something perfect.
To make an HDMI cord fit into the port? Yes, that IS easy to get perfect...
I agree, something like that is fairly easy to perfect. Atleast not a lot of people have had this issue.

They should have looked into this issue before shipping the console, that's what testing is for.

LaserShowNov I think it's funny how these consoles have things wrong when they release. They've been working on this for how long? Some of the stuff, are taken from the previous consoles and upgraded slightly. How are there still such stupid little problems like this? The HDMI port doesn't work? WHAT??
Not everything can be perfect. Especially these consoles.
But the HDMI ports? That's almost as basic as it gets when it comes to these consoles...
