PS4 launch puts strain on Playstation Network

4.7
Some users are having problems connecting to the PlayStation Network, after Sony noted a "very high volume" on the service following the midnight launch of the PS4. There's no word yet as to when these issues are likely to clear up.

With hundred of thousands of new consoles in the wild, and a significant 308MB firmware patch to download, it's perhaps unsurprising to see issues at this stage.

Sony said it thanks users for their patience, and through its Ask PlayStation account asked them to "please sit tight" for the time being. That account directs people to a PlayStation Forum thread for further updates, and we'll be keeping an eye on how things develop too.

MKP Sadly this will happen to the Xbox ONE as well so I gotta get a single player game on release date.

Sadly it didn't happen to the Xbox One.
Try again.

KAQ Well that's not very suprising the same thing will probably happen with the xbox one :/

The same thing didn't happen.
I don't know why people want a console to fail just because another did.
Welcome to the fanboy wars...

I just don't know why people are defending these consoles like they are family.

Dreams it seems most companys underestimate their product and are never prepared

I am not getting a PS4 until I see some exclusives that I like... But I know how frustrating this type of thing must be. I hope Sony can pull it together and clear this up quickly. But, thinking about it, you have 2 million people who will need a system update and will at a minimum want to download the 3-4 free games... Then add it the ones who want to do multiplayer... Ugg. It could be a while.

Hundreds of thousands of people where trying to connect at the same time :/ obvisouly sony weren't prepared for that. But they will fix this soon and everyone will be happy :)

You're defending the PS4 like you're getting paid by Sony.

Hopefully they fix all of the problems very soon.

XME Everything seems to be running smooth now. Just some lag here and there but that is always going to be there. The first night though it was terrible

It is really expected to be like this on the first few days of a consoles launch.

Sounds like nothing out of the ordinary, honestly. Just like day one of a beta, or some new multiplayer games, you had to expect this.
