PS4 pre-orders ahead of Xbox One, Ubisoft boss suggests

Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot has suggested that that PS4 pre-orders are ahead of Xbox One.

When asked during a financials call on Tuesday whether Ubisoft was worried about Xbox One's commercial performance, Guillemot replied, "Even if the PS4 is in front of Xbox One pre-orders... so we are not worried at all. We think [Xbox One] will be a best-seller as well."

Sony announced in August that more than one million PS4 pre-orders had been placed worldwide. Two months later, analyst Michael Pachter suggested that that figure had risen to around 1.5 million units.

While retailers have reported seeing strong pre-orders for Microsoft's new console, official figures have not been announced.

Guillemot said back in July that Christmas pre-order numbers for PS4 and Xbox One were double that of the launch of PS3 and Xbox 360, citing reports from retailers.

Ubisoft reported on Tuesday a $131 million loss for the first six months of the financial year (April to September), representing a 33 per cent year-on-year decline.

Higher costs, including a $56 million rise in research and development spend, has left the publisher in the red despite a slight rise in year-on-year sales generating $400 million.

PS4 is set for a launch date of November 15 in US and November 29 in Europe and Latin America.

The Xbox One release date falls a week after PS4's US debut, arriving November 22, 2013 in 13 markets. The Xbox One price has been set at £430 / €500 / $500.

Antonio_Cesaro we will see which sells better the pre-orders doesnt have to mean anything the xbox one could still outsell the ps4 afterwards

It could really go either way. I am really interested in what the sales figures will be once the consoles launch

Anyone who reads news outside of TTG has known this for a while.

This is to be expected as the PS4 has been always on top from the start.

I really wish they decided to put the release date in Europe as the same in the US..
