Xbox One can play CDs and is DLNA compatible

4.7
Sony released an extensive FAQ on the upcoming PlayStation 4 earlier this week and it showed that the next generation game console won't be able to play any CDs. The PS4 also won't support streaming content from a DLNA enabled device. These are features that are supported with Sony's current PS3 console.

Now the Penny Arcade Report has confirmed, via a Microsoft statement, that the company's Xbox One console will in fact play audio CDs and will be DLNA compatible. The story adds that the DLNA support for the console is still in the process of being certified. You may remember that Microsoft had previously confirmed that the Xbox One would not serve as a native Windows Media Center Extender, but the news that it will support DLNA does mean that the console will be able to stream content from other DLNA devices.

The PS4 FAQ also said that the console won't support the playback of MP3 files. Microsoft apparently won't allow Xbox One owners to import MP3 files directly to the console, but it will support streaming of music files from Play To devices like a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 PC.

Well I guess this is good news ;)

Again, we have the entire picture, other people may not. Some people sit here every day and consume every bit of gaming news down our hatch, others arent that hungry for all that info. But MS and Sony make sure certain messages reach the broader audience.

Sony has been preaching its gaming capabilities since it was announced and developers, especially indies, have been right behind them echoing the same praise. Indie developers have been signing up with Sony JUST because of the care and love for the industry tone that Sony has been going on about.

MS on the other hand has been putting out a message of entertainment. They led their console announcement with that, their first commercial was a sports related commercial, and their major focus for the longest has been kinect. Though all that tends to be sprinkled in with some games. This is the message that MS constantly puts forward.

So yeah, we see more of what MS and Sony are doing through the media so we get the full picture, but others dont usually get that they usually just get the PR and marketing. So, i guess, blame MS for the rose tinted glasses in this case.

The Awkward momment when the xbox looks like a smart, Shiney, sleak bit of kit whereas the ps4 looks like a block of flats from the 1970s
that awkward moment when you realize what the console looks like has nothing to do with how the game performs; and you realize that the ps4 is more powerful in all ways as far as gaming goes.

This is for Xbox users if you don't like Xbox go to the PlaysSation or PC forums, stop hating, Xbox has way more to it and PS4 is not more powerful, Xbox can update anything through cloud, Microsoft makes computers they know what to put in a console, Sony makes tv's and cameras they dont know anything, now grow up you Sony fanboys

I felt the need to directly address you, however judging by your astounding level of ignorance I'm going to assume you'll proceed to calling me a stupid fanboy with no life. Nevertheless, I'll give it a shot.

http://au.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_vs._Wii_U_Comparison_Chart

Here we have a comparison of the PS4, XBONE & WiiU specifications. Ignore the Wii U, we're just comparing the first two.

Let's start with the ol' RAM. While the PS4 is moving to 8GB GDDR5, the XBONE is sticking with DDR3. The difference? Well in short, GDDR5 is better suited for processes such as gaming, video viewing & rendering. DDR3 on the other hand is more suited to less intensive tasks such as word processing. DDR3 also consumes more electricity and generally has a harder impact on the system. So basically, GDDR5 is faster, more efficient, and more powerful.

CPU I can't say much since Microsoft only listed "Microsoft custom CPU" which really doesn't give much insight. They're both 8 core, so we'll call that one a draw.

In terms of GPU, both consoles went with the AMD solution. Let's point out the key difference here, the PS4 has 1152 shaders, while the XBONE is sitting at 768. Shaders are used to provide a 3D environment with shadows & lighting. The PS4 is capable of roughly 1/3 more shading variety than the XBONE. In short, slightly nicer eye-candy. PS4's peak GPU Shader output is at 1.84 Teraflops, while the XBONE is at an estimated 1.31.

Both are on 500GB storage, not much to say there. No external storage on PS4, but XBONE has no removeable HDD.

Another source explains that the XBONE has a system bandwidth of 68.3GB/s, while the PS4 is at 176GB/s. The PS4 can essentially handle more than double the simultaneous processes. I'm unsure if this has been changed, and I cannot find this from a confirmed source. Just figured it'd be interesting to know.

So, overall, the PS4 & XBONE have fairly similar specifications, both are running on AMD, 8GB RAM, 500GB storage, etc. However, the PS4 beats it by an inch with the smaller details. And trust me, it's always the small differences that you'll notice.

Cloud backup & storage is also available thought the PS4, I have no idea what you meant by "update anything through the cloud". Microsoft also doesn't make computer's, they design the operating system, technically speaking a computer is forged by many different companies. For example, Intel would supply the processor, nVidia would supply the GPU, and so on.

Sony happens to be one of the worlds leading companies in the electronics department, but they "don't know anything"? The PS2 was the most successful console ever, and was an amazing piece of technology for it's time.

And for the record, Sony DOES manufacturer/sell computers/laptop, ever heard of a Sony VAIO?

while i will not be buying the ps4 and i personally believe what is being offered not only physically with the console but software was is better than the ps4... im glad someone mature enough to have and adult conversation wrote that. interesting info man.

dudeyd awkward moment when even though xbox users can play cds, ps4 users get our first year of digital music free and also we don't have to pay for Netflix due to the partnership sony have with them and oh..... thought id also include that you HAVE to have gold membership just to record your gameplay.

lol.

This is what i really expected from both the consoles. I don't find it special that the Xbox One is doing it just because the PS4 is not.

The thing is that when Xbox 360 and PS4 came out a lot games were not 720p and still has previous-gen inside of them, once the gaming engines has been refined over the course of this next generation then games, give it 5 years time and you'll see a Elder Scroll 6 with graphics 10 times more detailed than Battlefield 4 etc. Look at the difference between Elder Scrolls 4 and 5 and you'll see the potential.

DLNA Compatible, awesome. Guys so is the 360. Download Sync Stream on the app store. It lets you stream music from your iPhone to your Xbox. I use it like every day when I play for long periods.

Dreams nobody uses cds anymore and anyone that buys a nex gen console most likely already has a ipod or phone to listen to music
I don't know 1 person who pays for their music through iTunes. It's easy enough to import your own music downloaded from a youtube to mp3 converter (which may I add is technically legal) and then import it in to your iTunes library and then to your iPhone/iPod.

i dont pay for mine either i use youtube converters my point is though anyone that is buying nex gen most likely owns a phone or ipod making this feature useless
