PlayStation 4 will not support CDs, mp3s or PC media streaming

PlayStation 4 will not play audio CDs and does not support mp3 playback, Sony has confirmed.

While every past Sony console has supported audio CD playback, the PS4 will not. Those who wish to select their own music during games will need to use Sony's Music Unlimited streaming service.

Meanwhile, mp3 files will not be supported on the PlayStation 4, and nor will it support media servers or DLNA support, allowing media streaming from a PC.

Despite these announcements and the numerous customer complaints that have followed, comments made by Sony worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida on Twitter suggest the company is open to feedback.

"Thanks for the feedback to the lack of MP3 and DLNA support at the launch of PS4," Yoshida wrote. "I'll share with the PS4 Dev team for future consideration."

The news comes via a lengthy FAQ which addresses every facet of the PS4.

The console will release November 29 in Europe and Australia, and November 15 in North America.

It's a major letdown to see it not included in launch but it isn't rules out in the long run

im getting ps4 and im a sony fan i can do without the cds there old school but no streaming? u mean we have just started streaming alot of hd content and stuff thats why all the isps are upgrading internet speed so often....on the other hand sony probably wants the money why i dont support that its better then getting banned on xbox live and loseing your console,points and remaining live. this is what turned me off getting xbox this gen also ghosts runs at 1080p native on ps4 for 100 bucks less so i can bit my lip on this one ill just use my smart tv for the streaming anyway.

It shouldn't effect anyone too much but it's certainly a let down for the console not to have it

That's just stupid. When I play my Xbox I stream music from my PC and/or my iPod. Sucks for PS4 owners not to be able to do that. Only if these next gen consoles will have Spotify.

Like I said before, you can do that on your mobile device or computer. You don't have to use the PSN Music as you already paid for your sh!t. Nuff said. If you don't have a computer or mobile device then you should commit suicide already...

ArmoredHazmat This is basic technology, it should be in the console, I don't wanna pay to listen to my music i've already paid for! I have cloud storage meant for steaming screw paying for that service!

FibreOp Eh, doesn't really matter to me. People can play music on their mobile devices or PC's. Its a gaming console, not an MP3 player but I guess you should expect kids to rage.
