Steam surpasses 65 million users

4.5
Valve announced that its Steam platform now has 65 million users, with the last 12 months alone bringing a 30 percent increase in active accounts.

Steam reached its current milestone as Valve prepares to launch Steam Machines, an initiative that aims to bring PC gaming to the living room with dedicated hardware, a platform-specific operating system, and a gaming-optimized controller. Currently, Steam hosts over 3,000 downloadable games from a broad spectrum of publishers and independent developers.

"The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user's experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience," said Valve president Gabe Newell. "As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta."

Amp- 65 million users is such a large amount. PC gaming is really growing.

I could see it growing a lot over the next 2-3 years as well. At this rate we will see them hitting 100 million in no time

Gigahertz Amazing. It's good to see a lot of new PC gamers coming in. PC gaming will always be better than console gaming, no questions asked. The 30% increase would most likely be because of the next gen consoles costing so much people have realised it's more worth while to buy/build a PC instead.

Well over all I think console gaming is better. Just because of the community. Its easy to make friends. I`v been on PC for months and have only reached about 1 cool friend. I`v had a maxed out and active friends list on the 360 since Call of Duty World at War`s release.

FaithInOmNi LOL xbox got this much day one xbox 360 came out. :)

This is pretty much impossible. Over the 4+ years that the console has been released it has only sold little under 80 million units. Please do some research before you comment something like this
That's SOLD. To register to stream is free. Very uncomparable...

Xbox Live is also a free to register platform. Despite not being a good one the console thing was just being used as an example.
Stream is a free to register platform. You're not buying anything. Xbox Live silver members are irrelevant.

They are completely relevant. You are not buying anything when registering for a silver account and it still counts as a 'user' in Microsoft's books.
