PS4 FAQ clarifies sharing digital games, PlayStation Plus benefits

4.5
Sharing physical copies of games on the PlayStation 4 may be simple but as detailed by the PS4 FAQ, sharing digital games is a bit more complex and restrictive. According to the FAQ, users will need to register one PS4 as their primary system, and on that system, downloaded games can be played by anyone. Users can also re-download their digital copies of games on other systems as long as they're signed into the PlayStation Network, but only that user can start up the game.

Designating a primary console also unlocks several other features, including Remote Play on Vita and the ability to purchase and pre-order content via the PlayStation App and have said content automatically download to your PS4. The FAQ also states that once you've chosen a primary PS4, "you can use up to 2 systems concurrently: the system activated as your 'primary' PS4 system, and one other system."

The FAQ also claims that, if a primary console is registered to an account with a PlayStation Plus subscription, there will be "numerous benefits" available to other users on that system, such as access to online multiplayer. The PlayStation Plus-holding account does not need to be logged in to utilize this feature.

The PS4 FAQ doesn't specify what other benefits for secondary users PlayStation Plus offers, or if the features mentioned will be enabled with the PS4's day one patch. Maybe Sony is saving that answer for FAQ Part 2: Electric Boogaloo.

What Sony should do is set up a system where you can "lend" your downloadable games to a friend by exchanging the license for a finite amount of time. It would work the exact same as physical distribution then, except you don't have to worry about your friend being an asshole and scratching your game up. When the time is up, the license automatically goes back to the owners console. The license monitoring would be in the cloud and locally, so the only way the system could be abused is if someone wanted to trade a game to their friend, take their PS4 offline forever, AND hack it so that the timer doesn't remove the license. This is the kind of feature where taking advantage of being online works, since you NEED to be online to buy digitally anyway.

TrickshotRano PS4 is going to take the lead over Xbox One, I just know it
Even if the PS4 does overtake the Xbox One in preorder/sales just remember the PS4 is being sold in nearly 4 times as many markets/countries as the Xbox One.

OmittingCoder Not hating on this or anything since I mainly play on PC but the 360 has this already. It's cool their adding it to the PS4 but it's not something they should be showing off.

Why not? They should still be allowed to tell people about what they are adding to the next gen.
I'm with the Xbox One but I still agree. Microsoft aren't showing the full capabilities of the Xbox One (i.e. the Kinetic 2 and other features) and are losing potential customers...

Axe xbox has had this for years, nothing really new other than sony copying the xbox 360.

To be honest, I kind of trust microsoft more, because they have a better reputation as a software and computer engineering company.

Did you even read the article??? I was unaware that the 360 that you could use smart glass and pre order games or use remote play with the vita... The only actual things that were mentioned that the xbox can do, so can the ps3.

sometimes i wish that Microsoft and Sony worked together to make the Ultimate Console. Then no one would be talking so much s*it

Last time Sony did that, they try to steal control over it from Nintendo. Nintendo leaving Sony butthurt after they broke the partnership a day after Sony announcing the original PS1, which then Sony made the PS1 we know today to get revenge on Nintendo.
Good old history lesson right there. Anyway, competition is good for the consumer...

I couldn't see that ever happening. They have been competing in the market for the past 8 or so years and have both made substantial profits from it.

ZAttack7 This is pretty much the same as it was on the PS3. I don't know why kids are saying it was on Xbox first and that they're copying.

People simply like to assume things without doing proper research. It doesn't really matter who did it first regardless. It's a good feature to have on both Microsoft and Sony consoles
