Nintendo of America: Wii to remain on store shelves in US

4.6
The Wii will be available in the US as usual this year, Nintendo of America has confirmed. Yesterday, Nintendo of Japan announced that it would discontinue production of the Wii, but the worldwide implications of this stoppage were unclear.

"The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan," a representative told Gamespot. "There is no change in the status of Wii in the United States, and it is available for purchase this holiday season."

Earlier this month Nintendo of Japan announced that Wii manufacturing is due to end soon. Nintendo has sold 12.7 million Wii consoles since its launch in late 2006.

Lavish As much hate as the Wii get, it is a fun console.
It gets old fast which is why I think it lost most of its popularity, but it was fine while it lasted.

I'll be honest, I do miss the GameCube and Wii days. Was just basic gaming for me trying to complete the game to the fullest, on your own without trying to be better than anyone like most games are now(competitive leader boards, achievements/trophies)

Gmlukens And it will remain there because no one will buy it

I doubt that.
If something isn't going to sell, it isn't going to be in a store.

Part of the reason the Wii U is not doing well is because the regular Wii is still around and known by more people.

Didn't realize the Wii was that old, it looks it in the picture.

Sad to see this thing die. It was huge like 5-6 years ago. It's even starting to look like an old console in that picture. Oh lord.

I don't see why they still have the Wii up for sale, in the US. It is a very old console, that gets very boring very fast!
