PS4: Sony admits early DualShock 4 designs were closer to Xbox 360

PlayStation 4′s new DualShock 4 controller went through several revisions, but boss of the company’s product planning department Toshimasa Aoki has revealed that early designs were close to the current Xbox 360 pad layout.

Speaking with GamesBeat, Aoki recalled, “For the analog sticks, we did test having the analog sticks on top, since the Xbox has the left side on top [above the D-pad]. Especially from the shooter teams — we got feedback that that’s what they wanted. They knew that consumers liked the 360 for shooters.”

He added, “The feedback from the user test team said that we needed to test this version, the Xbox version, and this version. [But having the two sticks symmetrical on the left and right sides] is kind of in our DNA. The prototype team, myself, and also the management team really felt that having this look is the PlayStation look, and we had to keep that.”

Have you tried DualShock 4 yet? What do you think? Personally, I prefer the Xbox 360 stick layout, but admit that the DualShock 4 is – in my opinion – the better of the two next-gen devices.

Sorry to break the pyramid but Sony admitted that the design was close to the 360 I don't mind what the controller looks like only thing that does matter is wether or not it is comfortable in my hands.

Kurumu I am not a biased consumer I own all of the gaming platforms (xbox, PC, PS, and Wii-yes wii is a gaming platform) but I can say that I have decently large hands and I couldn't hold the PS3 controller very long without it feeling uncomfortable. Hopefully they made it better but I will have to see in about a year when I buy the console. Xbox is my pre-order choice sorry Playstation lol.

Blu-ray was started by MIT and had help from 9 other companies Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung. but sony did not create it. These company also set up the Blu-Ray Association which allows other companys to contribute/join the association or use blu-ray in their products. so microsoft did not 'copy' blu ray from sony, they are using it under the permission of the Blu-Ray Assosciation. Next Microsoft is using a Custom GPU while sony chose a semi custom GPU. And i highly doubt you've played or held either controller.

I thought the saying was it if wasn't broken don't fix it. I wouldn't care if both consoles were clones of each other I would still buy both of them. If I want to play Killzone or Warframe or indies I will buy the PS4, if I want to play Titanfall or Project Spark or Dead Rising 3 I will buy the Xbox One. I rather don't care what the specs or the feel of it is, I only care about what I want to play. To be honest if both consoles had the same exact controller design with their unique cosmetic design I would think more people would be willing to buy both since each console has their own exclusive line up and there wouldn't be a learning gap and figuring out the difference in controller types or user interface but that is my two cents you may continue your argue about which console is better.

I like your opinion ATM i seem like a sony fanboy but im not i have a Xbox one pre-order not the PS4 but i want one i could care less which one is better. i like both and will buy both people are so one sided and trying to compete that it makes games less fun. if their is a console war lets be honest XBOX 360 > PS3 PS4 > XBOX ONE

Ok so explain to me how sony gets a royalty over every xbox one sold because of blu-ray. and how are you going to tell me what i have played? I live in cali went to the sony and ms store to play both of them they have demos at all the stores now. and do you know what a GPU is? microsoft is not using a custom GPU they are using a basic one. and sony would be the only one using a custom GPU to support its GDDR5. both are using standard gpu's.
