PlayStation 3 outsells Xbox 360 for the first time in 32 months

PlayStation 3 has sold more units in the US than the Xbox 360 for the first time in 32 months, according to the new NPD report.

The results were influenced by the PS3 Super Slim GTA 5 bundle, proving that Rockstar's hit - which boosted software sales in September by 52 per cent - has influence outside of the software market.

This is the first time the Xbox 360 has not dominated US console sales since January 2011.

Meanwhile, the 3DS was the top selling hardware product for the fifth consecutive month, while the Wii U experienced a surge thanks to Nintendo's price drop. As a result, Wii U sales increased by 100 per cent on an average per-week basis from the month of August.

NPD predicts that Pokemon X & Y will result in a surge of sales for the 3DS in the month of October.

The news comes amid a continued decline for hardware sales in the lead up to November's next-gen consoles launch. Total hardware sales fell 13 per cent compared to figures form September 2012.

Quite clearly. Also, Xbox are "expected" to outsell the PS4 around about now; I don't think they have no chance.

Get back to your PS4 news section. Anyway, who cares if the PS4 outsells the Xbox One? The pre orders are neck on neck and yet the PS4 is nearly being sold in 4 times as many countries....

Typical ttg logic is in effect here. You clearly aren't the brightest but even you should know that this race will be the closest yet. Neither console having a huge lead over the other in pre sale numbers. Maybe you should look them up, but that would make too much sense, which is something you've proven to be less than adequate at.

LOL...... Anyway.... This is crazy. I have grown to like the PS3 more than before, but I'm hoping the PS4 changes that completely. Loved PS1/PS2.

Xbox has sold almost double in america, the sales are like 60-40 so I have no idea why you would think that

Well pretty sure they won't be getting the new consoles, especially because these new consoles are jsut a pain in the arse if you ask me. Don't want to spend 350+ on a new console when i'm perfectly happy with what I have. I'm sorry but I don't want the horrendous features that the xbone has: being able to skype while watching a film, wooooow that jsut defeats the whole purpose of SOUND. The fact that the xbone uses nearly a quarter of its proccessing power is used on Kinetic which no one wants. The PS4 sounds much more appealing but even then I don't want to spend any money. ehhhh
