Xbox One: No real name usage online at launch

4.5
Xbox One owners will not be able to identify themselves by their real names via Xbox Live when the system launches this November.

A Microsoft rep has confirmed that the implementation of new functionality to allow gamers to use their real names on Xbox Live has been 'postponed'.

"While real identities continue to be part of our plans for the experience on Xbox One, at launch, customers will continue to search for friends using their Gamertags," the rep told Kotaku.

"Our teams are working hard to deliver a quality experience for Xbox One. This means prioritizing some features and sometimes postponing others for a later update," they added.

Microsoft has previously stated that Xbox One players would have the option to identify themselves on Xbox Live by either their Gamertags or real names.

But a recent video demonstration of Xbox One's Friends app showed friends listed by their Gamertags only.

PS4 players will be encouraged to attach their real names to their PSN accounts on the console, which has an all-new interface that places a heavy focus on deeply integrated social interaction.

Microsoft has confirmed an Xbox One release date of November 22, 2013 in 13 markets. The Xbox One price has been set at £430 / €500 / $500.

I'm sure not everyone would like to use their real name for protection reasons, I personally would love to!

I think using your real name to identify yourself over console could potentially be dangerous in the case of the small percentage of people who like to cause mischief. The current gamertag system is great and provides some privacy.

CYGX It's pointless to use your real name in my opinion, a lot less creativity involved

Yeah, a lot of basic names really. It does make it boring and less creative.

I wouldn't like to use my real name neither. I'd rather use creativity names.

Same with me. My name is pretty boring anyways.

Using an Alias would be the better option in my opinion. I wouldn't like everybody that i play with to know my real name.

That plus my name is taken anyway. My friend put it on a gt lol

Don't see why people would want this, therefore I don't care.

Cost I wouldn't really like to be able to use my real name on xbox.

Then just use an alias or a false name.
There are many ways to get around small things like this.

-LOST- I don't see why someone would want to use their real name. There's a lot of messed up people out there.

That's exactly how I feel about it, less about the creep part, but more of, why would someone want to.

Exactly what I was thinking, all of these creepers and hackers on xbox...
