Call of Duty not representative of military life, says Ghosts producer

4.7
The Call of Duty series has often prided itself on its realistic take on military warfare. However, as the years have gone on, they've veered away from a realism and moved more towards the Hollywood blockbuster territory seen in Call of Duty: Ghosts and its sci-fi elements. The reason for that, according to Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg and Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin, is because they can't completely replicate the war stories told directly to them by military veterans.

"There an enormous amount of appreciation for what [veterans] do," Rubin told Game Informer. "In no way do we feel we are a representation of what their lives are like. We are trying to be a cinematic movie experience based on authentic equipment and authentic experience. A lot of the stuff that we show in the game has been done by someone, but it's not a representation of what they do or it's not an equivalent in any way of what they do. We're just trying to make a fun movie."

This is clearly a different approach than the one EA took with Medal of Honor.

Though it's a fictional experience, Hirshberg does note that veterans are included in the development process. "We try to make our games authentic, we try to get the feel right. And then, also, there are guys who come in and do our mo-cap for us and become actors in the game, do the stunts in our commercials, and certainly, there are some high-level consultants who have some harrowing stories that have been some of the inspiration for some of the missions and levels in our games."

Woobie Could care less what it represents, I just want to dive into campaign already..

Campaign is always my favorite part not multiplayer..

-SkillzPosted:

daRealRush I'm sorry, but I think CoD: Ghosts, is going to be a huge failure!

I don't think its gonna be a hug fail but it won't be that good I think

ITT - Little kids who think they know what is realistic.

Secondly, a retarded 5 year old could have told me this game isn't representative of military life.

Shen BF is realistic and CoD is an arcade.

Yes magical healing bags throughout the map, reviving paddles that can heal you after getting shot in the head multiple times, and lets not forget being able to take 10+ bullets to the upperbody and living. Yeah battlefield is very realistic...

Their called medics and every soldier would carry a small medical bag anyway. Also, hand held personal defibrillators are available to buy for anyone.

On and it's called body armour! It's there to save you from multiple kill shots!!

=/ Why do you protect cod when they openly admit to being unrealistic??? Give it up!

Body Armor for your head, where can I acquire this?
Defibrillators revive people who have a bullet lodged in their brain?
Infantry soldiers trained as medics?

Oh you are so wrong.

Erm a helmet?

I never said all soldiers were trained medics, but they all carry a small basic kit.

If your going to nit pick every comment then this is pointless. EVERYONE agrees bf is closer to the real thing and now Activision admit cod is more of a movie than a true representation of a war zone....but yet people like you still won't accept it.

No game is ever going to come close to being shot at, but it's common knowledge and widely accepted across the industry that bf is by a mile, closer than cod.

Even games like Operation Flashpoint are closer than cod, if you can't admit it, then all I'll say is enjoy the next cod and you'll be very welcomed into bf multiplayer when you decide you want a bit more.

Battlefield is just as unrealistic as CoD..

The only realistic difference I can add is from Battlefield, and that's bullet drop and speed, and even that's not fully realistic because you don't have to acquire for wind speeds or anything.

Couple off the top of my head;
1.No Kill-streaks
2.No unrealistic perks (like being cold blooded, or invisible to air support, ect.), i mean, carrying abit make ammo or another grenade is realistic (which is what bf allows)
3.More realistic gun sway and recoil.
4.Building can have random wall/chunks out of it (and on bf4, taken down completely)instead of a piece of cardboard that doesn't move even with rpgs.
5.You can fully control all vehicles (except ac130, because you can't be the driver on it)(ie set a heli down anywhere) cod you can only circle around in helicopters, try landing,oh wait.
6.All vehicles don't randomly explode or leave for no reason after a while.
7.Missiles have an original point of fire (bf4) instead of magically appearing from no-where, in the prefect position to rain down on the enemy.
8. Bipods available for guns and usable (no a flattish surface)

Haven't played bf or cod in a while, there are many more realistic factors in BF4, let-me guess your mainly a fan of COD, that's why you can't think of many differences?

Actually no, I hate CoD with a passion. Haven't played any games in a while so I was really going too deep into thought. I stayed away from talking about vehicles because I was thinking someone was going to jump in here saying something like "You can't just jump into an helicopter realistically" so I stayed away from mentioning those.

Oh you silly little children. Go play ARMA then talk about realism.
Shot to the body = death
Shot to the leg = broken leg your unable to walk
Bullets don't magically change magazines after reloading
Takes more than one person to operate a tank
Civilians
Animals
100 square mile maps
No perks
Destructible environment
The only player cap is how much your PC can handle
Pass out from running to much
More weapons than both games
More vehicles than battlefield
Independent faction
Night time
Weather
And of course more bugs

Yes arma is very realistic game. Battlefield and call of duty aren't close to realistic.

Answer: compared with what? a perk that allows to flinch less when being shot, or maybe it's the perk that allows you to take less explosive damage, allowing you to survive most explosive weapons that are detonated or shot right beside you.

Defibrillators revive people who have a bullet lodged in their brain?
more realistic than being able to become completely cool-blooded?

Infantry soldiers trained as medics?
More realistic than infantry being able to see and hack equipment through walls? exactly.

Face it, compare with cod battlefield is a simulator.

Oh YOU are so wrong.
why dont you both shut up it was just said the game isnt about realism just play the game and like it for what it is dont go and ruin the experience for everybody they are both unrealistic in their own ways and always will be cause its just a game
