Apple: New iPhone demand is 'incredible'

The iPhone 5s went on sale today, as did the iPhone 5c, though pre-orders had been available for a week. Stopping short of releasing any concrete sales numbers, Apple did say that demand so far has been pretty good. Apple usually doesn't announce numbers until after launch weekend.

“Demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and we are currently sold out or have limited supply of certain iPhone 5s models in some stores,” an Apple representative told AllThingsD.

Indeed, it didn't take too long for Apple to sell out of the new iPhone model on launch day. All models of the space gray (black) and silver (white) iPhones have shipping dates pushed back 7 to 10 days, while all models of the gold iPhone won't ship until October. Every color and model of the iPhone 5c won't ship for one to three business days either, but that's not too much of a delay. Typically, products that are fully in stock will ship from Apple within 24 hours.

Apple CEO Tim Cook also made an appearance at the at the Apple retail store in Palo Alto, Calif., where he shook hands and talked with some customers. As one might expect, the line stretched as far as the eye can see this morning.

Why do people complain about the iPhone 5c being made out of plastic when most, if not all other smartphones on the market are also made of plastic? You complain when it's glass because it's fragile and then you complain some more when it's made of plastic. WTF? People just LOVE to complain.

Gotta_Have_It Is there really much difference between the 5, 5s and 5c? Still good work for apple, probably won't be long before you start hearing iPhone 6.


Here is how this works. Every year they have three models for sale. Last year it was the 4, 4s, and the new 5. This year its the 4s, "new" 5c, and the new 5s. Now your wondering where is the 5? Well its the 5c. The 5c is just the 5 in a cheap plastic casing. By putting it in plastic they actually save about 29% on production cost, and by doing so they can say its "brand new". Even though it has the same specs as the 5. Which in the end makes it even more profitable then the 5s. So its just a very smart buisness idea because you and I know good and well there are many people who will "upgrade" from the 5 to the 5c thinking its the 5s in a cheap casing.
