Xbox boss 'hopes to bring' Gears of War to Xbox One

A key Xbox exec has addressed the future of the Gears of War franchise on Xbox One.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, translated by DualShockers, Microsoft's Game Studios VP, Phil Spencer indicated that while the platform holder would like to see Gears return on its next console, the decisions is ultimately up to developer Epic Games.

"Gears of War is developed by Epic Games, and they've been our partners for a long time on Xbox 360," he said. "You should ask Epic Games about what they want to do.

"We haven't announced anything yet about Gears of War, but we hope to bring it to Xbox One in some form. However, there's nothing more I can tell you at this time."

Key members of the Gears of War development team, including series creator and Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski, are no longer at the studio. In October 2012, Bleszinski resigned from the Gears of War studio some two decades after joining.

This was followed by Epic Games senior producer Chris Wynn, who left to join BioWare's Mass Effect 4 team.

Gears of War director of production Rod Fergusson left the studio in August 2012.

A number of developers from Epic Games' Poland studio People Can Fly, which developed spin-off Gears of War: Judgment, also departed in October, before the resignation of board member and long-term consultant Mike Capps.

McCutchen Epic died slowly after Gears Of War 3. It's not going to turn out well, and this is coming from a hardcore Gears fan.


Personally I think it would do well if it made a comeback but all in all the GOW franchise has got a lot of competition and they would need to step up their act to even compete with the rest.

Gossip I dont like GOW at all. Its just a bad game to me. So if this comes out count me out.


I was never a fan of it either. I tried GOW 1-3 and didn't really get into it. So if it comes out for the Xbox One I know I won't be getting it either.

I enjoyed playing the Gears of Wars series, if they do bring it to the Xbox One good for them I am sure a lot of people would buy it myself included in that. But they have a lot of competition to deal with if they do bring it out on the Xbox One.

I never really liked GoW, I played the second one a bit and bought the 3rd one but I never enjoyed it much. The campaign was a bit of fun but besides that I never liked it.
