Mixed messages over free FIFA 14 on Xbox One

4.8
Microsoft has clarified that a free copy of FIFA 14 will only come with pre-orders for the special Day One Edition of the Xbox One console.

The new claim comes two weeks after a Microsoft executive claimed that "all pre-orders for Xbox One this holiday will include a copy of FIFA 14 at no extra cost". That quote, by corporate VP Phil Harrison, suggested that the offer was not limited to the special edition of the system.

At the same time, Xbox communications executive Larry Hyrb tweeted news of the promotion with an attached image of the Xbox One - but this was not a Day One Edition.

everal retailers, including Amazon, are accepting pre-orders of the standard edition of the console.

The matter was complicated further when the official Xbox twitter page insisted that all pre-orders will come with FIFA 14.

@Ianoconnor22 All pre-orders come with FIFA 14 in Europe, Ian. Doesn't matter if it's a Day One console or not.— Xbox (@Xbox) August 27, 2013

However, days later the Xbox EMEA social marketing manager Graeme Boyd would clarify:

"Had a few questions on this so wanted to clarify: FIFA 14 will only come free with Xbox One Day One Edition pre-orders, while stocks last."

It is unclear how many Xbox One pre-orders were instigated due to the FIFA 14 offer, and how many of those customers will receive the game they were promised. CVG has contacted Microsoft for clarification.

Xbox One Day One Edition consoles come with a commemorative controller, a code to unlock an exclusive Achievement, and a free digital copy of FIFA 14.

UK retail outlet GAME is currently taking pre-orders for Xbox One Day One Edition consoles, having previously halted them.

Xbox One will launch in 13 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £430 / €500 / $500.

it is called a pre-order bonus. they are thanking their loyal customers who jumped onto the pre-orders. There was more than enough time to be able to pre-order a day one console it is only recently that they ran out of the day one edition. People need to stop complaining over this, it is their own faults for not pre-ordering in time.

Aggie I think that if they advertise it they should give it, not just change it because they can.

they did not "advertise it" it was an ignorant Microsoft employee who tweeted it.

Wagering It's free, why even complain?

It's only free for people that managed to got their hands on the Day One edition, which isn't fair in my opinion.

MentalistPosted:

I think it isn't fair, people that pre-ordered late still buy the console for the same price.

Neuron Is this in the US too? or europe only?

Did you even read the article? It says Europe in the guys Tweet. The reason they have had to clarify so much is because no one reads.

I thought it was only on Day Ones so this isn't really a big deal.
