Xbox One To Support Mods? 'It's Up To Developers' Says Major Nelson

In a first for Xbox, it looks likely that Xbox One will support mods.

Following news that any Xbox One can be used as a dev kit, it was asked on Reddit if this means the console would support mods.

"It's up to developers to support that," answered Microsoft's Major Nelson. "These are two very different things."

His answer suggests that the capacity for modding is there, if developers create games in a way that will support it.

Xbox and Xbox 360 didn't allow for mods but the recent Xbox One policy changes are positioning the new console to be the most open console Microsoft has made to date.

We're still doubtful we'll see mods on Xbox One titles but this is the closest Microsoft has come to allowing them to happen on its console.

This is very interesting and would open a whole new playing experience for the games that did allow modding.

Are you retarded or just a post whore? Did you even read the article? Mods are going to be supported on the Xbox One if the game creator allows it.

Mods would make the games so much better. For example, Skyrim on the computer is 100x better than it is on the Xbox 360 because of all the user created content. The graphics enhancements and alternate stories and weapons and armors, i could go on but the list is practically endless. MAKE THIS HAPPEN MICROSOFT!

You're gonna have to pay for Mash-Up Packs. You're gonna have to pay for mods. This is Microsoft. Get used to it. They try to get ever last penny out of you.


Not true, you may have to pay but it has always been reasonable prices. E.g.. the mash up packs are only $3.99 that's pretty cheap.


Who says it was microsoft saying they have to charge for mashup packs?

I think it will be quite a few updates away for servers but I still hope they'll be implemented in the future.
