Xbox One Illumiroom projector too expensive for home use

4.6
Xbox One’s Illumiroom projector concept would see your living room plastered with imagery to heighten your immersion in a game. Now, Microsoft’s Albert Penello has said that the tech is now for research purposes only, as it’s too costly to bring to the home market.

If you’re a bit like ‘Illumi-what-now-huh?’, then you can watch this showcase demo of what the projections would have looked like below.

The tech was said to be housed within Xbox One’s Kinect sensor as standard but now, speaking with AusGamers, Xbox One head of product planning Albert Penello has said it’s unlikely to head to your home.

He explained, “I wouldn’t expect you’ll see that. It’s really super-neat if you’re in the lab and you’ve got Microsoft money and you could totally set up this awesome lab, but… we looked at it, but for an average customer it’s, like, thousands of dollars [for the set up].”

Do you feel this is a big loss for the console? Let us know below.

This looks incredible but hearing the vague price-range for the set up doesn't bother me that it wasn't put on the market xD

I think the concept of this is brilliant I am not that bothered about price personally, As long as it aint 1,500+ I think this would be awesome to watch movies or play games on.

Aggie This would be really cool to play games with or just watch movies on.

Would seem a bit weird if you don't have like a plain white wall :3

I think it would be awesome to bring this to the "Home Market", because If I had the money, I would totally buy it!

As cool as a concept this is, no developers would waste their time with it if it is going to be a pricy, optional device that no one is going to buy. They need to devise a cheap way to produce the product which would make for a wider buyer market. Max a consumer should be paying for this is $300 or so. That's why it won't be released. The projector on its own costs that much or more.

it's a nice feature to have it you have a nice plain background

I would never use that, i like to just play in front of a screen like normal people do.

I think it's pretty neat, but since it's so costly, it's not really worth it.
